Just acquired a 2019 ZL1, A10. Never owned a supercharged car before and wondering about a droning noise whether the supercharger is making the noise or it's tires. Happens when I'm off the throttle or cruising at light throttle. Stock tires, stock everything. Of course I can't hear it when I drop the hammer (or turn up the Bose). Doesn't seem to be exhaust note either. Car only has 20K miles on it.

Not sure a droning noise could be made by a blower, but tire noise could be a cabin noise you hear. What are the tires? Also, does the car have a 100% stock exhaust? Does the sound persist when you have the mode in all (4) Touring, Sport, Track, Snow Ice? If so, probably tire noise or other.

Thanks for the response. I'm going to get the tires checked out. Dealer had them pumped up to 40psi...same noise at 32 psi. Stock tires. Hope it's not the A10 making noise.

I own a 2023 ZL1 with 830 miles on it currently. Have the OEM Supercar 3's and they make ZERO road or drone noise at ANY speed(At 30psi). I also had the factory exhaust for about a year with zero drone, then put Flowmaster American Thunder Axle-Back Exhaust on it and also have ZERO drone. I have a K&N cold air intake and while i hear the supercharger whine a bit more than the stock air box, there is by no means any drone. I'm sure that doesn't "help" you and I'm sorry. I'm just giving you my experiences with my car and what I've done.. I hope you are able to figure out what is causing it.

Worn out tires make more noise than new tires - if the car has the OEM exhaust system then it might be the tires. They're 5 years old now.

Thanks everyone. Looks like the stock tires are the culprit. I didn't expect to see this bad of wear at 20K miles but then, I did replace the stockers on my 2017 SS at around 20K but they didn't look near as abused as the ZL1 tires. Previous owner must have put in some track days on the ZL1. I'm super impressed by the ZL1; what a difference 200 HP makes along with handling stuff, too. New tires and theft protection coming tomorrow. All season tires with a warranty are in my future for street use.

UPDATE: Got the CONTINENTAL EXTREME CONTACT DWS06 PLUS. No more drone!

The stock GY Supercar 3 tires wear out faster than other tires but you have a ZL1 now. It is a serious upgrade over an SS. I know I bought mine in 2019 as a very low mileage ZL1 and like you never had a supercharged car before which took a short time to get adjusted to over the 2016 2SS that I had. Enjoy the drive in that ZL1!��

Thanks! I really enjoyed my 2017 2SS. The 2019 ZL1 is amazing; what an upgrade. Getting new tires today. Still trying to get used to the rear view camera; messes with my depth perception.

Haha. Maybe at some point I will, but the people that have ridden in my car(who I asked before my post) all said they did NOT hear anything that sounded like drone. . I wanted to make sure I asked them before posting in case I was missing it. So, nope, no drone in my car....for now. OR, if you'd like to experience the BEAUTIFUL, AWE-INSPIRING(HEAVY sacrcasm) views of the flattest part of the world I live in(Nebraska) you can come visit and I'll give you a ride to see for yourself that I have no drone in my car.

You're lucky if you get 10k out of a set of Supercar 3s. You're quite unlikely to get 20k out of any tires on our cars.

And yeah they - like all tires - make more noise when worn vs. new.

Treadwear warranty is useless, due to staggered setup. It's not possible to rotate without dismounting/remounting the tires, and since they only last 10k so treadwear warranty is pointless.

However, you WILL want to get a road-hazard warranty for $500 tires. Free from Tirerack

Drone is probably the wrong noise, but the OP is probably hearing the Supercar 3 tires. They are pretty reasonable for the first 1000 miles or so but then they start getting noisy. When they are half worn the really make noise and its mostly at lower speeds (below 40 mph) which is fortunate.

I'm in FL...its pretty flat here too
