RR license plate mount

I'm sure this is easier then I am stressing about, but one of my 3 items I sent to the dealer as "no, no's" was to not drill holes in the front bumper for a license plate mount. WELLLL, they did not drill and/or add the RR license plate holes and anchors.

I pretty much assume its easy, but I am freaking about scratching the area. Has anyone done this before and can offer instructions?

Do you drill one larger hole and push the square frame anchors through the round hole?
Do you use a smaller bit and drill multiple holes to essentially make a square pop out?

There are multiple dimples on the plate area but don't seem to be mirrored left to right

thanks

Did they supply the anchor clips for your license plate? If they did measure the width of the square tabs, drill a hole slightly smaller than the clips resting width and use a small square or triangle mini jeweler/finishing file to make it a square hole. you can always make it bigger but you can’t make it smaller so start small and work your way up.

Just keep it hole less.............slap some red double sided 3M tape on it and never worry about the holes.

I think you are talking about the rear plate mount? The screws tap right into the rear fascia no anchors needed. There are several dimples, make sure you are centered on the right dimples for all 4, mark them through the plate holes, drill a small hole in each then screw in the screws. There is extra reinforcement behind each dimple in the fascia. Just be sure you are centered, I've seen dealers mount rear plates off center. I get stainless steel screws from Tractor Supply.
You show Michigan which does not require a front plate.

Damn that’s a great idea! End of problem! Unless License plate theft is an issue in your area

I was thinking about that but I have a plate holder that has a smoke out pane on it.

I had no idea that you could tap right into the bumper. Just seems not as secure as using the anchor clips.

Is there a dealer tech on this site that can offer some insight?

Yes I have the clips

I strongly recommend a silicone plate "frame" similar to this one if you want to preserve your paint: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BNPV2VTZ?th=1

By the way, 100 out of 100 people screw the plate holder into the rear bumper, that's what the reinforced dimples are designed for. The reason there are so many is the different plate sizes and attachment points across the world.

Do you have a local dealer that you trust? Have you asked them what they would charge to do the work?

From there, you contact the original dealer and tell them that they failed to complete a step required for delivery - ask them to cut a check in the amount of the other dealer's charge. If they refuse "offer" to let them send a technician to your house or to send a flatbed to transport you car back and forth.

You just never know if you'll get a reasonable person on the other end of the phone or not.

So just curious, you ended up drilling the front or back? If the back, I wouldn't be afraid to drill at all. It's meant to, like others have said. The front doesn't have to be drilled if you use the supplied plate bracket that I thought everyone gets in the trunk with the racing air deflectors or whatever they are.

It looks better than any aftermarket bracket I've seen honestly. Some of the other ones look cheap and tacky.

It was the rear. I told the dealer not to drill front, well, they didn’t drill the rear either. I had just never done it and with it being a CE, was afraid I’d F it up by drilling too big. Square peg (plate anchors) I’m round hole had me rethinking my logic.

Okay, I gotcha. Yeah I can see why you might be hesitant. The dealer drilled out my rear and it came out just fine.
