Next TRACK date

Next track day for me will be at Eagles Canyon Raceway 2.7 CCW SCCA Time Trials 7/15. I will be in the UNLIMITED Class 1. Fastest I have been on this course is some 2.02s.

With the new AP Racing Brake set up, I hope be be running some 2.00s or 2.01's. TEMPS forecasted to be in 100's so I will need to do that in the first two sessions of the day more than likely, IF EVERYTHING is PERFECT I could break the 2.00 barrier but they rarely are.

I will post up video afterwards.

UPDATED Trans Cooler to Be installed

Ok guys and gals,

Last time i was at the track, my trans temps got to 250 degrees due to the excessive heat and THAT is NOT good. So I had AMP order me a TRANS cooler for a 10 speed auto that comes standard with the ZL1.

That trans cooler will bolt right in place of my stock one (camaro SS version). THIS ZL1 version is a 14 ROW cooler design compared to the SS version which is a 10 ROW design. Also the Core Tubes are .75 wide compared to the SS version .69 wide core tubes. Also the inbound/outbound lines on the ZL1 version are .49 inch in diameter compared to .38 inch diameter for the SS version. I have been told the opening underneath the bottom of the car will have to be enlarged to accommodate the larger size of the ZL1 cooler.

Will post up pics when installed

We will change out filter and fluid as well when we do this PRIOR to track day this weekend. PICS Below. Cooler is about 245 dollars.

Installed A10 ZL1 Tranny Cooler

Ok PIC below is installed OEM A10 ZL1 Tranny Cooler. This is a bolt in replacement for the stock A10 SS tranny cooler. Only mod you have to do is to make the opening about 3 inches wider towards the front of the car to accomodate the larger size of the 14 row Zl1 cooler vs the 10 row SS tranny cooler.

I will let you know what effect this has on trans temps after my time trial event this saturday. The outside temperature should be in the 100's so that should be a good test. Last time out I was getting up to 250 degrees which is too hot. I would be happy to see 210-215 but time will tell.

The LEFT side of the picture is the side that is closest to the FRONT of the car. This cooler is basically parallel to the ground behind the front bumper area We changed out fluid and filter while we were at it. We used 14 quarts of MOBIL 1 ATF HP fluid at 14.25 a quart retail (11.99/qrt at summitt) and a damn 61.00 filter YIKES!!!! There is NO FILL tube on an A10 by the way so there is a very specific procedure on how to properly fill tranny (do a search).

XPEL PPF Thoughts

Worrying about cosmetics on a car that you track frequently can be at the very least frustrating.

You cant really have a show quality car if you daily drive it and especially if you track it. But being as I would like to keep this car as nice as possible I have looked into putting some XPEL Ultimate PPF on my car.

The first piece I had wrapped is my Zl1 style front spoiler extension that you see a pic of below. This was a BRAND new EOS piece that was GLOSS black and I immediately took it to a shop and had then wrap it with CLEAR XPEL PPF. This particular PPF is self healing so if it gets some surface scratches they will typically smooth themselves out after the PPF heats up with either a heat gun or direct sunlight (not problem in TEXAS).

What I DIDNT know is that XPEL PPF DOES comes in a limited amount of colors (non-metallic gloss black being one of them).

So step TWO with be to wrap the front bumper bar which DOES have some chips in it now with XPEL GLOSS black PPF. This stuff is 8 mil thick and SHOULD be pretty durable. I am ALSO going to the wrap the area in FRONT of the rear wheels as this area takes a beating.

Step THREE would be to perhaps do a half hood wrap assuming that the color match is good.

MIDDLE Blach SS hood vent replaced with TRUFIBER CF Vent

OK as I mentioned in post number 302 above; I decided to replace my stock middle BLACK SS hood vent with a carbon fiber piece that would complement the two CF vents I just installed. Here are the pics below of the top and back of the vent. I will post up shortly the vent installed in the hood. This is a EOS piece and is VERY nice.

Why didn't you use the recommended A10 fluid?
