LT1 front side tire ducts?
Hello camaro fam, I was installing LED side marker lights on my LT1 and the side tire duct/dam seem to be closed on both side. Is this normal? TY

Those are called air curtains and they are a fuel economy aero trick. By the looks of it GM just used the normal fender liner but the LT1 doesn’t have intakes at the grille for them. No worries.

the LT1 does have the intakes to route the air around the tire. |

Wow, then I'm incorrect. Not sure why they are like that. Interesting.

well they are fixed now, I just cut them with a razor, there is even a nice factory channel to let the air though. |

On the 1LE those ducts are open to help cool the front brakes, I assume they are there on all, just not opened all the way through, like on OPs LT1, interesting

I thought they are for MPG aerodynamics, the brake cooling is from under the car via the lower control arm plastic wind deflector. |

I was going to suggest you cut them open, but you did, well done!

Brake cooling deflectors cool from underneath/backside, ducts cool the outside of the front wheels, essentially "washes" over the face. On track they will cook! lol

Now I’m interested to see what my LT1 has when I get it. I’d appreciate if others with the LS,LT,LT1 share if they have them or not.

Makes me wonder if there is a reason. Maybe they planned on having it but there was a drawback that they felt wasn’t worth it. Maybe rock chips down the side? Just a wild guess.

Mine are closed too. I’ve looked at them a few times and wondered what the theory was…
