Let's talk racing seats that work outside of track
Considering I still have very young kids, I still cherish the rear seats for being able to haul them to various events.
That being said, I am also an advanced driver that is now at a point where I no longer enjoy driving on track with our stock seats. Has anyone figured out a light weight bucket seat where it can either fold / move forwards and backwards thereby giving my kids access to the rear seats? If it works - I could use BY Harness bars for track use only. 1/2 cage unfortunately would sacrifice the rear seats. Thanks!

I think BMW is one of the only companies that offers a great competition hybrid of a track/street seat. Maybe try to look for something similar to that.
I don't have any recommendations though, I am at the point where I might just dump my stock seat and go full race seat as well. The stock seats are not good enough for high G corners and the car is fast enough that I think the extra security of a hans/seat is a worthy addition. |

Could you put a race seat in the drivers side only? And access the rear seats from the passenger side? I know some HPDE organizers require equivalent seats/restraints for both sides (like PCA) but if you are Advanced/ Solo perhaps that could work?
The Porsche 997 generation Sport Buckets were a folding seat with harness cutouts- not sure if they could be made to fit, also pricey. |

You can install Sparco Race seats with Sparco sliding rails. The problem you'll run into is that you can run a 5pt or 6pt harness without installing either a cage or a harness bar. You won't be able to have the kids in the back seat with the harness bar in place.
It's all or nothing unless you get race seats just to run the stock seatbelts which will be useless at the track. |

I currently swap in and out, when i know i dont have a race coming up in a while I'll take my sparco out and put my stock back in just for daily comfort. But then again my sparco evo isnt uncomfortable by any means. Just the 6pt is annoying to do up and off all the time. It's a two bolt swap, 10 mins or so. Just get yourself some loctite

https://competitionmotorsport.com/pr...xoC8IQQAvD_BwE The problem with ANY slider mechanism is that it will loosen up over a period of time under HARD use such as HIGH G cornering I have since REMOVED the slider from this seat and attached the seat directly to the planted technology seat bracket with class 8 bolts using side mount brackets. I was getting too much movement in the seat with the slider installed and THAT got much worse over a period of time. There's a reason why ANY slider mechanism is disallowed by most sanctioning bodies. The access to the back seat is NOW only thru using the seat slider that is on PASSENGER seat. A note about this particular SPARCO seat. Is is pretty narrow so it is probably too tight for anybody with a waist size more than 34 inches and with body weight more than 210-215 pounds. They make OTHER seats that are wider that can support better bigger drivers.

Well KROPS as you are probably aware, I track a MINIMUM of 2-3 track days a month and pull anywhere between 1.8 to 2G's cornering and with my 215 pounds my seat was getting looser as the year has gone by. I didnt notice it as much when I was driving but you could move the seat from side to side slightly when it was unoccupied. I was told that there was very little difference in the different sliders out there but maybe RECARO is a better slider with closer tolerances, I dont know. I DO KNOW however that the seat DEFINITELY is more stable WITHOUT the slider.

So when I took the slider back off I had to compromise with that a little by moving the seat a little further away from steering wheel but NOT as far back as I would normally put it for DD. I DO HAVE a little more headroom now with the seat a little further back but I got MOST of that because the slider probably took up about 1 inch of vertical spacing when it was installed.
