LT1 Replace Rears only?
So I recently leased an LT-1. I had to have a V-8, manual drop top. I do miss the eletronics of the 2SS I previously owned, but didn't really consider the 245s. Since it is a short lease, I am considering buying some SS rears to get more meat out back. Has anyone left the stock (245's) up front and gone to 285 or wider in back?
the stock silver rivers don't offend me, and I think I should be able to find some 9.5" SS rears on the cheap? Cheers. |

Keep the tire heights similar and you will be fine.

yeah, I have been on this forum for seven years and have never been able to fix the inverted pics. I promise these pictures were not upside down when posted.
If anyone has the silver stock SS rears for sale, hit me up :-). |

![]() Okay, okay, I'm done You can save the pictures and rotate them back and forth in some photo editor, that'll fix the orientation. The reason they show up inverted is that there is extra orientation metadata in the file that isn't supported by all software, certainly not this 15-year-old forum engine, and it displays the raw data as-is.

JBinSD: I bought a brand new 2022 LT1 and had a Magnuson supercharger kit installed by Davenport Motorsports, the Canadian distributor. That resulted in the OEM LT1 rear tires losing traction at full throttle at any speed up to the maximum I have driven the car (about 85 mph).
But i LOVE the optional black forged wheels that came on my LT1. They are the first car wheels I have ever owned that look really good while enabling washing even the inside surfaces when washing the car, and doing so quickly and easily. But a pair of wider ones for the rear from GM would cost a fortune here in Canada. Guys here on the forum suggested I try a pair of Nitto 555R2 tires ("street drag radials"), in 275 width, on the 8.5" wide wheels I have. This is technically on or past the recommended limit of wodth on an 8.5" wheel, but the local tire shop manager was comfortable with the safety of it. That totally solved the full throttle traction problem, at sensible ambient temperatures (the car still loses traction in colder weather, but not nearly as badly). The appearance of course is also nicer. ![]() Jim G |
