I'm actually beyond the 1500 mile break-in and I still haven't opened it up past 4000. This whole time I was more focused more on varying the RPM's and also letting the car warm up properly. I try to make sure I run through each gear and am nice and smooth. Once the oil is up to peak temp I then run out the gears longer. That won't change even when I have 50,000 miles.
No matter who you ask, you'll get a different answer, and after all, it is your car that you've paid for, so you can treat it however you like. Good luck and enjoy the car. |

Quick question
Is this guide relevant to me or does it just to performance models? The standard manual is much less specific and says don't exceed 4000rpms during the 1500mi break in period. I have a 6.2 V8 engine so does the recommendation of not exceeding 4000rpms within 500mi apply to me at all? Did they simplify the standard user manual? (It takes up less than half a page) Thanks in advance |

It says SS, 1LE, ZL1 & ZL1 1LE are in scope.
I assume that excludes your LT1 unless you have a 1LE package on there somehow. |

I'm not totally sure, was wondering if the 4000rpm before 500mi was for just specified models or all engines, since this guide is easy more specific than the standard manual

Congratulations on the new ride. I just have one piece of advice. I’m 69 and have had high performance cars my whole life, but nothing has compared to the performance of this Camaro. Respect the 455 hp and be careful, but have fun.

There was no LT1 in 2018, but it has the same engine as the SS so it applies yes. The ideal thing is to stay below 4k for the first 1500 miles, but again, it's not like if you go above that threshold engine damage will automatically occur or something. It's recommended by the manufacturer, which is why most of us stick to it.

LT1 is listed in the 2023 version but stipulated performance package. I don't believe I have the performance package though. |

Sustained operation above 4K rpm is what you want to avoid.

The real question is, is the LT1 warranted for track use? Pretty sure the SS, ZL1, and LE versions are still covered under warranty if tracked, as long as they're not modded. Does that apply to an LT1 (the version of the car, not the "engine")?
