Whipple Supercharger Rattling LT1

Hello so i recently bought a whipple supercharger used from DAYS PART YARD. I installed it recently and when i imstalled it, it sounded like it was rattling. And before I put on superchargers on my cars, I check if there is play at all. There was none. The SC rattles at idling RPM’s. Once I start to give it some gas its quiet. When I come to a stop I can hear it. What should I do? Tuner said after 5,000 miles they usually make that sound. I ask others and they say bearing. Did i get scammed? What should I do? I contacted them. I think im going to have to send the whipple off to get rebuilt. But if so what should I do with the seller I bought from? Not to mention, I spent $600 on missing parts that they didnt mention was missing.

Can you post a video for the forum to see? Assume it is a Whipple 2.9 or is it the new 3.0?

Assumed you check the oil level in the SC as well thru sight glass? (and at least replaced the SC oil with 5-50WT full synthetic- for the Lysholm compressor only) The new whipple compressor uses SCOIL-155 (W140) or SCOIL-200 (W200), Ford Motorcraft part number XL-4, or GM part number 12345982.

It’s not uncommon to see a 2.9 make a “rattle” sound, especially at low idle. I believe Whipple considers that normal and stated so in the install manual of my new 3.0 blower. If you increase the revs a bit, does the noise go away?

Hmmm guess I didn't hit post. Mine doesn't rattle idling or revving. 7.5 lbs.

Normal for Whipple 2.9's with large pulleys spinning slow. Increase idle rpm and/or pulley down.

It's gear case backlash. Mine was pretty bad when new, but after a break-in, smaller pulley, higher idle(600), it's a lot quieter now.

Well over a year ago. I bought a used 19 ZLE that had a Whipple. The previous owner must not have drove it much since his build. It started the "rattle" with me. It became increasingly louder. So, I messaged Whipple and sent a video that they requested. It was an immediate email back that they said it needed to be sent in for repair. I sent it in for repair and it was a front coupler bearing failure. It took about 3 weeks for a "rebuild". Installed the SC back on the car. Everything was hunky dory until mid October of 22. The rattle was back. I should included that the rattle did go away at higher RPM. However, I messaged Whipple again along with the race shop that built the car. Again, sent Whipple a video of the rattle. Again, immediate email to send in for repair. This time though, I consulted the race shop. I should have done that the first go around, looking back. After long discussions of options. I decided to do away with the Whipple and go with the Mag 2650. From the receipts of the previous owner. He bought the Whipple from a 3rd party vendor at about 35% off of normal price and sent to the race shop. It may have been a group buy that were sold from the vendor. Who knows though? One can speculate any possibility. I am glad that people have had good luck with Whipple SC's. I really liked the one I had. I just had to make the decision of a possible rebuild year after year or, go a different route.

There’s a video on YouTube where Ryan Martin is installing the Edelbrock blower in place of a Whipple that is making a noise. He removes the blower and sets it to the side. He starts looking for the sound with it on the bench. There he finds a lot of play in the bypass rod that pokes through the blower. He pushes and pulls on the rod and it knocks when going end to end. May be worth checking out
