Flex Fuel kit and requirements...

So, I've searched the forum but can't quite finding my answer. I'm looking at the DSX Flex Fuel kit for my 2023 ZL1, as I probably will hold off doing a cam swap until fall/winter. DSX seems to be well thought out and developed kit. I'm not concerned about "concealing" the fact that I have Flex Fuel installed. So, is DSX's kit a good option? Also, once installed and I get a tuned. Will I always be required to have a mix of pump gas (93 or 94) and E85, or can either 93 or 94 without a mix of E85 if needed? Thanks !

The DSX kit is great. We use them exclusively.

Once the sensor is installed and tuned you can run pure gasoline or any blend of E that your fuel system is capable of handling.

As Mike said the flex sensor allows you to run straight pump gas, or E85, or any blend in between. my advice would be to target E60 and just keep it there. The reason being is in the summer you might squeak by on whatever percentage of Ethanol comes out of your local pump(normally E78-80) but in the cooler months you will likely run out of fuel system headroom unless you mix it with pump gas and lower the E content. E60 provides 95% of the gains of Ethanol fuel for most setups anyway. So I would just target that percentage when you fill up. It doesn't need to spot on either. It can be E50-E60 and it will be fine.

Listening in.

Who is recommended for I think is called a "canned" tune to run Ethanol after installing the kit? I don't think unlike the OP who is doing extensive mods I would probably just need it turned on in the ECU without all the other 'tuning' that might occur?

If you have Hptuners then it can be done remotely. If not you have to take the car to shop. Either way I would do more than just turn on the sensor to maximize the gains.

Pm me if you want help.

Flex fuel is so awesome. I normally just putt around in my maggie ZL1 on 93. When when I plan to go to the track, I know my car can handle e40 so I use the ecal app on my iphone to get the correct ratio of 93 to e85 to add to get to e40. I also use my HP Tuners setup to be able to log Alcohol content to make sure I hit my e content target. You can also use a plug in OBD2 gauge. Then I rip it, no changing tunes or anything. Then I let that run out, and just keep refilling with 93 and the car gets back to e10 pretty quickly.

Jorge Loves Speed had good luck with this method. I think he was just running a full drag pack, DSX low side, E', RFBG, LTs, TCM, and all tuned by Pray. Stock boost and blower. He ran a solid 9' with that combo'.

I think he pulled a seat, too... Regardless - for what he had in that car, that was pretty impressive.

I am planning on getting a flex fuel tune very soon, but am curious on one detail. I got a Banks Idash gauge, so if I go ahead and add the flex fuel sensor now, can I see ethanol content through the idash before I get the actual tune? Or will the sensor not function at all, even for monitoring, until I get the flex fuel tune?
