Are you guys who are at 650+whp able to get traction at speeds under 60mph? Do you need to upgrade other components or change tires to put down that kind of power? I want to be sure that if I spend the $$ to add 100more whp that it will actually be usable on the street.

I'm spoiled by my rs3 and Tesla that I can floor at any speed in any condition and still not worry about sliding all over the road. I know that can be fun, too, but not when you're trying to keep up with the stock 5.0 next to you who thinks he is faster (yes, that has happened already in the zl1 ) I sat there and spun at 40mph and he was gone

At 740whp you have to roll in to it. You definitely should not be just stabbing it to the floor. Rolling in to it you can still easily dispatch most cars on the road. It’s still easily faster than the guy with 600whp that’s stabbing it.

Ya def roll in to the pedal you can't mat it at just about any speed under 60 in any conditions and get it to hook.

Thanks. Still learning how to live with this power level and rwd. When I was up against that 5.0, we were both taking off from the light a little harder than normal, and then at some point soon after, he gunned it, so I did too, and that was it for me. Prior to this zl1, my really high HP cars were awd, with the exception of other Camaros, mustangs, and Corvettes - but all were the ones in the 400hp range (c6, c7, GTs, SSs, z28s) - those were manageable at that power level, especially if it wasn't too cold out.

What are you running for tires out back…?

Yep, roll into it and take it easy if the tires or the weather are cool. No issues once everything is warmed up. I'm running the stock SC3 tires.

just the stock non-1le ones. I just hit 1000 miles on the car

Believe those are SC3’s…great in the corners but only good for sending smoke signals in terms of straight line performance.

lol that sucks. I don't hit corners hard, I just like to accelerate quickly. Guess I need to start thinking about some new tires. I thought they only put the super handling tires on the 1LEs. It seems almost negligent to give every idiot out there with $70k a 650hp car that can't go straight

You'll think it's a different car with a tire swap. More traction, and less rocks thrown. Those sc3's are great when they are at track temp, but SUCK on the road.

The Nitto NT555R2 drag radials get great reviews from most. The Toyo R888R is great too but definitely noisier than the Nittos. Those will both hook way better than the SC3 in a straight line.

Question for you and Rob, then. I'm hesitant to run actual drag radials for around town driving. What is a good compromise - more traction than stock but that is still closer to a street tire?

Supposedly the NT555R2 is most street friendly drag radial ever based on what I’ve read here. It’s definitely not like Mickey Thomason’s or the like. I’ve run my drag pack on the street a few times and I’m not a fan. I would have tried the 555R2 but they were on back order.

I’ve found the R888R traction to be superior to the SC3 but the tire noise is definitely louder than stock for sure. At my power level, it is what it is if I want any semblance of traction on the street with great high speed stability and great handling.
