Roto-Fab Big Gulp for Road Racing

Any issues with AITs running the Big Gulp CAI when the ZLE is strictly used for road racing/track days?

Would a closed CAI be better for road racing?

Big gulp requires a tune and the standard series rotofab is pretty useless without a tune IMHO. Both are esthetically pleasing underhood. Get a green panel filter for the stock box for road racing. Trim the snow blocker from the driver's side inlet and you will be fine.

Just to be clear.... are you asking about IAT's ?
If so... then its my understanding that a RotoFab would have no affect on IAT's. A rotofab will flow more CFM (dont know the numbers), but will not reduce IAT's that i am aware of.

I believe the term CAI "cold air intake" does not with our cars because even the stock airbox is pulling air from the front grill. Doesnt get any colder than that.

Stephen is right, a big gulp does require a turn, so if paired with an E85 kit, a a 95mm TB and a tune, I think you would be happy with the results.

If you are wanting lower IAT's, then you would want to look into either a 2 gallon fender expansion tank like Synergy's, or larger HX "heat exchangers" from Weapon X...

Does that help?

An engine is only going to be able to efficiently and effectively use the airflow it is tuned for, road racing or not. As stated, a Rotofab Big Gulp will require a tune to effectively begin to handle the significant airflow it allows, at a minimum. Save yer money for new tires.

Yes that helps.

I just want to make sure the Big Gulp wouldn't increase AITs since the car will be mainly used for the track.

I plan on doing a similar build as the JRE 125 RWHP Flex Fuel package (no pulley) but was trying to figure out if I should skip the Roto-Fab CAI for either something more enclosed like the AFE Track Series, the Elite Series Carbon or just run the stock one.

I do plan on tuning the car along with headers and few other mods. Would you still recommend the keeping the stock box?

I LOVE the JRE package... great choice, these cars LOVE E85. I think the big gulp is fine for your build... I would strongly suggest a Banks iDash guage to keep track of IAT's 1 & 3 while driving.... That way you can get better data from any other cooling mods to try in the future.

Sounds good!

It looks like you did a JRE remote tune. I know JRE is great, but any reason you went with them as opposed to someone more local?

if you are going to tune with JRE, he recommends the Big Gulp, LT5 throttle body (optional), flex fuel sensor, & headers. Headers are a bit of a PITA for road course duty IMHO and JRE can help you either way. He is truly understanding of the tuning necessary with whatever combo you choose. He "dialed in" my tune perfectly. I have used my car for road course use at 42-46% E for 1500 miles+ on track with no issues. No headers, TB, or rotofab for me (just a personal preference).

Thanks for the info.

Based on the following thread I am leaning towards the CSP headers with ultra cats: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=592866

Great question... at the time, I simply could not find anyone that either had time, or that were as familiar with the LT4 platform as JRE.

The street / remote tune is more time consuming, but got great results, and am looking forward to round 2 with him.
