Best Street legal Drags
My 23 Zl1 was finally accepted, one of the main reasons I got the car was to drag the car, but also drive it for fun.
What are the best tires for dragging that I can also use on the road. I also don't want to have to change anything with the car ex spacing etc. Also would prefer they dont rub!! Also on the other hand, what is the best set up rim/tire combo if I were to go with 17-18" rims and drag radials. thanks a lot!! |

Get some 17" wheels for the rear and run 305/45/17 MT ET Street R's. This is a very proven wheel and tire combo. They are more drag than street tires, so would need to be cautious in the rain.

Nitto 555R2 if you need to be able to drive in the rain at all. MT ET Street R if it's only going to be driven on dry pavement.

I believe you'll need to go to the ET Street SS for 20" wheels. Same rubber compound but more of a street tread pattern.

Op if the car doesn't see rain and you want the most traction on the stock 20" wheel then get the MT ET SS tires. |

I have literally found no one on several message boards that agrees with your assessment.

Ok. Quite a few folks may suggest and prefer the Nitto 555R2 over the MT’s probably due to it being a more well rounded tire such as handling the wet better, cornering decently, grips well for what it is and lasting longer overall. The Nitto 555R2 is a great tire for a daily for someone looking for better grip than a street tire and also serving those other purposes I mentioned pretty decently. I can understand and agree with those that prefer the Nitto for those reasons over the MT, however since trying both tires and in my personal experience, the MT SS tire prevails over the Nittos for pure traction. I believe many would agree with my assessment both online and in person that they would chose an MT tire over the Nitto if they are looking for the better hooking tire. |
