Testing the MM Wild Catch Can and FIInterchiller
1 year ago I had to leave Thailand and I was unable to give the results of my test for the MM Wild Catch Can. For those that remember. I opened the lid at 4000 miles to find oil everywhere on top of the supercharger, in the bricks; it was a freak’in mess. Now that I’ve come back to Thailand last month, in a few weeks I will keep my promise to MM and the people that wanted to know and I’ll pull the lid after about 5000 miles of spirited driving (cause I almost always drive like that). But this test thread will get better. I will also test Forced Induction Interchillers products. In the next few days, I will Mount my friend’s barbecue thermometer onto the lid. I’m not doing the laser. I want the back of that barbecue thermometer to be affixed to the lid. Let’s see the temp after 30 minutes of me driving round. After I get the Interchiller and a bunch of other mods that are planned completed. I will mount the barbecue thermometer again. I would mount the gauges now to get AITemps, but I’m not unplugging or plugging anything until the initial tune is flashed in. For FIInterchillers products, I have bought not only the Interchiller, but also the spacers and the thermal blanket. The guys at FIInterchillers say I will be able to put my hand on the lid and it will be cool after driving around, REALLY??? Ok, we’ll see, cause now, I can’t touch the lid for 2 hours after driving here in Udon Thani, where my wife wife who grew up here will tell you, there are 3 temperatures here, hot, really hot, and freak’in blazing HOT.

I get down to about 36F here when it’s about 90F outside.

This is my blower after 6600 miles. The only oil was that 1 little spot. Everything else was clean. No catch can, yet, but I will be installing one over the summer.

WOW!!!! So Clean! That is unreal, really. Probably a testament of how heavy my right foot really is. My brick-ends were totally stained. It will be interesting. I already drained the can after about 1000 to 2000 miles and got 4 ozs of oil caught. It's almost time to check it again.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying about MATemps. And you're absolutely right that this is what is important. But this is just easier comparison for me right now. And the lid temp should be fairly indicative of what's happening underneath. At this time, I cant touch the lid for hours after driving the car. It's very hot and it will burn me. I'm thinking about putting a thin sheet of Aluminum foil on it to see if I can fry an egg, just to see it the old adage applies, LOL. FI says I'll be able to put my hand on it and it will be cool to the touch. I'm anxious to see. A few more weeks... |

Maybe I don't have to do the test after all. I found the following video by accident today. I was uploaded on the 29th of May..... If this video doesn't prove how well the Interchiller works, nothing will. I'm impressed. Starts at about the 4 minute mark.

Most people break in their engines too easy. I'm a firm believer in relatively aggressive break in (short bursts of hard throttle with cool down periods), first 10 heat cycles are critical. Worst thing you can do is cruise down the highway, but I see plenty of people doing it. 1000 mile break in intervals are just manufacturer cya and mean nothing Regardless, catch cans should be installed ASAP for any boosted application, especially DI |
