Correct, the aluminum housing requires the "traditional" shaped thermostat. The LT engines have a multi piece unit that only works with the plastic housing as it has brackets and such inside.

Does anyone have the part # for the correct temp LS thermostat to use? I would like to have a set handy also. Thanks!

I used this one as I also struggled to get a 180* OE LS t-stat. So far, so good. Time will tell

According to the AMP website it comes with a 160* stat.

AMP does, but they seem to use a low quality unit. Their disclaimer for the thermostat doesnt put me at ease.

Don't see the disclaimer on the site. Can you post what you saw?

I stand corrected! DMS has the disclaimer. AMP offers Motorad which does carry lifetime warranty.
