9/19/2021 UPDATE: I paid around $240 to GM for the diagnostics they did and brought it to an independent shop so I can get a second opinion.

The independent shop was able to get the car to start, but hears some weird noises and suspects it was the oil pump that threw the code.

The independent shop is currently trying to get a hold of extended warranty with no success to get them to answer.

The attachments below are the diagnostics that GM pulled that voided the powertrain warranty.

Unfortunately, you're running a nontrivial risk with this car. The printout shows 10 ECM recalibration ("tune upload") events, the first couple may have been the dealership updating the software, however, if gm say some of them were unauthorized, someone must have tuned the ECM. Somewhat strangely, if this is the complete list of calibration updates, neither the TCM nor the CCM was tuned, so maybe someone was trying to save a little money by not getting the transmission control module unlocked and paying the extra credits (if they used HP Tuners), which would also mean the tune is not the best possible calibration for this car.

I'm sure the car is fixable no matter what, the oil pump going out is a well known issue that happens even on stock 2017-2018s, see this thread:
https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=532479, but your powertrain warranty is toast, so the cost of fixes would be on you from this point on.

I have never been in this situation, so I can't comment on the legal route, but you may have a better chance of coming to an understanding and settling with the dealership(s) about selling you a car that may not have been legal to sell in California in the first place. Either way, my feeling is your chances are slim, sorry, but I'm hoping for the best outcome for you nevertheless

9/20/2021- UPDATE- Feeling a little disappointed and lost.

Extended warranty denied the claim because they said that GM is suppose to covered this cost since it is under manufacturer's powertrain warranty; but GM has already taken their stance.

Looking to go after Shift.com (Dealership I bought from) to come to some sort of agreement since they ultimately sold the car with a previously tuned ECU. Not sure what legal basis I have, but its worth a shot since the repair is insanely expensive.

I do hate seeing this, used cars that have been tuned and the buyer (maybe even the seller, too) are unaware and GM says "ya that sux...BYE"

You'll need an attorney if you want to get anywhere with this issue. Dealership will spin you until you give up.

If like... 1000.. well, seems car was probably tuned like a year ago or more.. if 5.. well, probably tuned a few days ago.. etc.

Is the car stock? Can you show us a pic of the engine bay, under the car (stock exhaust? has all the cats?), etc? Could try to go to the dmv or whatever it is in Cali and tell them the dealer sold you an "illegally" tuned car (illegal to tune the ecu in Cali now). Maybe get some help from the usually useless state? Lol.
If it's not a GM dealership, they will have no idea if the ECU has been modified.

My advice, cancel the extended warranty and get the money back for that. It's useless now anyway. Go after the dealership that sold you the car. If they won't help, then lawyer up. Unfortunately, that's probably your only course of action unless you just want to pay to have the car fixed yourself. The bad part is that now the car will have a voided warranty and it's going to kill your resale value unless you sell it to someone that's going to mod it.

Or….
Keep the warranty. My guess is it’s under GM until you hit 3/36 and 5/60 right? After that, from there on, it will be under the extended warranty and chances are, they won’t be looking for a modified ECU and future repairs will be covered.

Of course, if they too have somehow flagged your car, then I’d get a refund now.

Cancel the extended warranty. Use the cash to fix the car.

Best advice I've seen yet. Extended warranties are worthless just a more BS that dealer put on the OP.

It really depends on the warranty and what company it is through. I've seen some good ones and I've purchased some good ones before.

The new GM protection plans suck though. They're branded Chevy but they're handled by an aftermarket company that has terrible customer service. The amount of items not covered is laughable as well.

serious/actual/real question...why not, CarShield? Do some of these inspire confidence that they're GM backed, etc etc
