Lower with Magnaride..

Hey everyone, what are some of the pros or cons of lowering a ZL1 with Magnaride suspension? Does it affect the overall geometry of the car in a negative way? Worth the upgrade? Thanks for any help!

I lowered my previous 2013 ZL1 convertible that had the mag ride suspension.
The ride became a lot harsher because there isn't as much spring to compress. I vowed I would never lower another car of mine because of that.

This is gooD to know if you have a trim/ride height calibration error. Proactive to know this could arise. Apparently the dealer can calibrate/relearn the new vehicle height.

I haven’t lowered my car yet but did purchase the calibration software from shocksims.

I lowered my 2021 ZL1 with Eibach springs, no issues at all, ride quality remained almost identical. I lowered the 2020 C8 Corvette we had and the ride was noticeably rougher, however getting rid of the stock run flat tires fixed that competely.

I lowered my 17 ZL1 on Eibach sport springs. No regrets.

I haven't noticed any change in ride and it still corners like a beast.
YMMV

Hmm I wonder what the differences are between the two platforms to yield such different results. As far as geometry goes did any of you notice a difference in cornering etc while on the track? And if swapping out springs does that void the factory warranty? I know i could swap the OEM back in, I was just curious.

I put Pfadt lowering springs on my 2013 ZL1. The springs were kind of the rage at the time. Pfadt was bought out by AFE so now you'll find them under the AFE Pfadt brand name.

I also looked seriously at BMR lowering springs. Looking back, I kind of regret not buying the BMR springs. I got the Pfadts during a Black Friday sale relatively cheap. The online vendor I bought them from went out of business a long time ago.

Because of the extra weight of the convertible, it was recommended not to do more than a 1-inch drop. The Pfadt springs were advertised to work on both the coupe and convertible. From my experience, they didn't work very well on the vert.

The difference betweem the two platforms is everything. Its apples and oranges comparing these two vehicles. Magnaride has very little if any to do with it. The majority of your ride quality comes from the springs.

Both the ZL1 and the C8 Corvette felt absolutely glued to the road after lowering. Lower center of gravity has almost no cons.

I specifically went with the Eibach springs on my ZL1 because the advertised drop wasn't as much as some other aftermarket springs. In my opinion, it sits perfect.

So why didn’t Chevy have it at a lower ride height to begin with? There has to be some geometry changes within the suspension when altering the springs. Not trying to argue as I’ll probably go with the Eibach ones you mentioned, more of thinking out loud.

Ground clearance...the ZL1 doesn't really sit that high anyway. You can always go 1 size up on aspect ratio for the tires and fill the wheel/fender gap that way.

I mean anytime you mess with the car suspension you are changing the set up from OEM. Most of the time, people go too low on a lowering springs so the struts and shocks cannot keep up. Given that the magna ride can be readjusted for the new ride height, i would do that if i was to lower the car. This would allow the shocks and strut to function better.
