Throttle Body Choice, Need Advice
Greetings friends!
I have a 2021 ZL1 A10 stuck at 1100 but Im collecting the parts for a bolt on build, daily driver. J-Rods in Rosenburg, TX is doing the work and MS Tuning, is doing the tune. The build is as follows -Jokerz Ported Blower with 2.30 pulley and belt -Bigger coolant reservoir and heat exchanger -Big Gulp -Kooks headers c green cats -Awe Touring with resonator -Catch can -Plugs -tune I have been enamored with the Soler Throttle body 95mm/100 effective, however the other choice is the Nick Williams 103. Can anyone provide any info as to one or the other? Ive read great things about both, and wanted to get other opinions and rationales. Thanks!! |

If you're not tuning, I'd say Soler. Since you're doing a ported blower AND tuning, the 103.

Go NW 103. I’m sure the Soler 95 is a great piece but I would go bigger especially with the ported SC. Did J rods suggest the Jokerz port. There’s a guy local that does great work (Modern Airflow Dynamics). I’m sure Matt’s going to do your tune. Should be a good power output. Keep with the updates.

Just a note, the larger you go TB wise the more driveability issues you will have to deal with in the tune. This is coming from someone with a Katech 103mm TB.

I have a Katech 103 as well. Very responsive throttle, like neck snapping. It took me a while to learn to gauge it from a stop in traffic.

If the car is going to be tuned, go with the 103mm. If not, you can use a stock ported TB but you likely won't gain any power, just a little better off-idle drivability.

LT5 throttle body seems to be something Jannetty uses

At your proposed power level, both will perform similar. The 95mm is fine but I’d go with the 103mm if you plan on doing a cam, ported heads, and/or bigger blower IMO. But you’ll be fine either way.

We always recommend not to go bigger than you need, our 95mm (100mm Eff.) will be good up to 900 engine hp. The 103's, are only needed if going above that.

Here you go, bigger is better right? Let's go for 123mm.
This one is fine if you want the option of "ON" or "OFF" throttle wise

I've seen a couple videos and a few stories of aftermarket TB-motors having issues on some PD-builds. Those builds were pretty radical, admittedly, but it seemed like a consensus that was building is the larger the blade, the more stress is placed on the motor. The blower can pull the blade shut. I wouldn't know if this is becoming more common, and am not suggesting anything more than I just stated, anecdotally. I've read the bigger TBs can be tough on drivability, too. While I generally believe the bigger the better (within reason), for what I was trying to do, I went with an LT5, and am pretty happy. I started with a stock one, and ported it after tuning for a good bit, and would report, even with my shabby hand-porting, my fueling needs to be readjusted, so I must be on the right track.
Were I in your shoes, I'd ask myself where I saw the build going down the road. If you were going to do more later, I'd just get the 103. If you weren't going to do much more, I'd go with the ported 95. That will require either an adapter or a little Dremel'ing though. It was worth it for me.
