Can you elaborate on why the link you provided says that 2019 model year testing is still pending? If it's only a HW swap, I'm curious why this wouldn't "just work" all the way back to 2016? Or, at least for 2019 and up?

Because the 2019 is missing other hardware and there was a coordinated change in two other subsystems that needs to be tested thoroughly. It’s also not only a hardware swap there is a custom programming involved as well as ton of other issues for example getting the units registered properly with GM etc it’s a big deal to do this properly and have it all be OEM and properly interface with everything else as if it was built that way.

Retail on the module alone is $825 plus another $300+ for the map database card plus the custom programming you get to enable NAV as well as HD radio etc. They also come pre registered on the GM back end which you cant do with used modules but you dont have onstar in your market so its not as big of a deal.

Currently i have 2019 HMI on my 2017 car, and it is also have no OnStar. Works perfect, seems no problem with Onstar.
