Buying tires and spacers for Apex ARC-8 (ZLE fitment on ZL1)

Hey,

2017 ZL1 w/ARC-8 ZLE fitment (makes 200+ whp over stock)

I know I'm going to run 305/30R19 on the fronts. Have you guys used 3mm or 5mm spacers?

In the rear I want to go with 345/30R19 to support the mods I have and get some use out of second gear again , concerned with it fitment. Please comment if you have this size on ARC-8 out back and what it took to make it fit. I plan on driver side harness relocation and roller/heatgun treatment to flatten spot out.

Tire wise I'm considering:
  • Michelin PSS (would prefer PS4S but they don't make a 345)
  • Toyo R888R (concerned with noise but car is very noisy not sure it will matter)
  • Michelin PS4S (if going with 325 rear)
  • Nitto NT555RII (345 rears) NT555G2 (fronts)

Thoughts?

What is your purpose? If its street driving and some drag racing, go with the Nitto 555R2, if you're road racing it, go with the Toyo R888R. The Michelin Pilot Super Sport is a good tire but the PS4S is better.

Too loud for a couple of the tracks I've been to and don't have a lot of plans for track days. Mostly looking for maximum grip on the street.

Maximum grip, I would go with a Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on the front and Nitto 555R2 on the back if you're not afraid of running mismatched tires. You can use a Nitto 555 G2 on the front but they just aren't as good as the Michelins.

I'm not a fan of going Nitto, I know how good the PS4S are, I have them on there now in ZL1 fitment.

Wondering if there are some other options people have gone with and have some experiences to share

You said maximum grip, that would be the Nitto 555R2. The only tire better would be a drag radial like the Mickey Thompson ET Street R which isn't a good tire to drive on the street.

If you are road racing it, the best tire by far vs. the ones you listed, is the GY SC3R in 305-F/325-R. For road racing lap times the 3R will beat the R888R on track in 325, 345, any size.

For drag racing the Nitto or Toyo is better, but for road racing there is no comparison.

No matter how much bigger you go in the rear with other tires, the 325 SC3R will outperform those in lateral grip on track until it's heat-cycled out. It was carefully engineered for this car in a way to work best with the total weight and balance better than any tire except maybe Hoosiers or full Pirelli/Michelin (non-DOT) racing slicks.

EDIT: sorry, missed you post about not road racing--I recommend R888R for the launch grip, tread depth and longevity.

Does anyone have in car video/audio with R888R? I'm fairly loud and not sure they will be the loudest "feature" of my car.

Check the bite of the lug nuts on the studs with a 5mm wheel spacer. I added longer studs as the 5mm spacer only gave me 5 turns of the nut. Not enough engagement for me but YRMV.

Here is a track lap on R888R tires. Different car than a Camaro but tire noise is the last thing I hear

I have a 2018 ZL-1 with the Arc-8, ZLE wheels. 305/30s front with 3 mm spaced and 325/30 rear. Stock Goodyear F1 Supercar 3s. Love the setup on a 700 hp to the rear wheels.

I have the same setup as the above poster for my dd and Road course work and run 3mm spacers.

I recently ran all the tread off the 315/30/20 r888r on my stock 20" wheels and will be replacing it with the same tire in 325/30/20 with the hope of getting some traction back.
