Audible chimes / dinger emitter disabling?

I tried to search first to see if there were previous post that addressed this specifically- but can audible chimes/door dinger be disabled electronically through ECM/ECU manipulation?

I'm gonna go ahead and guess by where the sound seems to come from that the emitter is buried behind the tach/speed display and can't be reached physically without destroying the dash assembly.

Maybe trivial or even 'stupid' to many or most people, but this car seems to make more annoying 'dings' for all manner of assorted sh!t than any car I've ever owned and it sets my misophonia into rage mode and drives me totally batsh!t every single day.

I wish the only time it would make a damned noise is when I leave the lights on. That's it. :/

The door chimes are run through the radio. You might be able to dis able them with a nave tv sound processor

The bluetooth and wifi connected dings are annoying although I have gotten used to them.

I would definitely like to disable them if possible!

Through the radio huh? Odd. Sounds like it's coming from behind the dash, lol. But I was planning on replacing the stereo soon anyway... I wonder if the chimes will just disappear if I only have the minimum needed connections made to the new radio. I can do without just about every other feature integrated into that stock unit. I only require it to crank my mp3's through the bluetooth. I don't even wan't the OnStar stuff in there.

And the seatbelt chime doesn't bug me, I just always put it on right away anyhow. Though, admittedly, this is the first vehicle in my life i have ever developed that habit for. I seldom wear them in other vehicles and buckle them behind my back if the chimes are annoying.

I have a custom stereo in the ZL1 and as such, the only thing left factory is the head unit. That said, I am using the PAC Audio Amp Pro amplifier interface, and the chimes get rerouted through that unit. I can literally control the chime level from 0-100% of OEM 'volume'. I shared the same frustration you have, and I believe I have it set to around 8% now. That's on the quiet end (obvioulsy) but I don't need an obnoxious reminder I left a turn signal on or my door was left open when detailing, etc. And yes, the sounds are all digital output through the speakers...tearing your dash apart to find some sort of noise emitter would be futile! It may sound like it's coming from within the dash, but that's the result of decent sound imaging.

On top of that you have the chance to save your life if an accident happens. I heard this was an happy accident when the engineer found out that it is more safe to have a seatbelt while driving! At first it was really designed just to turn off that awful chime.

The chimes are embedded in the software from the audio processor. They come through the front left channel, and your reverse sensors will emitt beeps from the correlating side of where the obstacle is through the rear channels. The only way to get rid of them is do what DFW_Muscle did and get one of the audio processors available that can adjust the chime volume independently.

HOWEVER, you will need to get aftermarket amplifiers and new speakers as well, because these processors are designed to bypass the factory amplifier system. You cannot just get the processor and be done. They make your factory amplifier useless. So beyond the $300 or so for the processor alone, you'd be spending much more money for an amp, new speakers, and hardware/wiring, along with labor if you have someone do it. All in you'd be looking at well over $1000 just to get rid of your chimes. Your stereo system will definitely sound much better though

Welcome to modern vehicle integrated control operations. Where quite literally, your turn signal and sub woofer is integrated.

I always wear a seatbelt, but I don’t always remember to fasten it before I start the car.

Thanks for the info everyone. Though now I am even more depressed about it... lol. I think I am going to do what was suggested by Petrol Head above and just have a new system thrown in that's completely isolated from the car's stock electronics. F***ing cost be DAMNED.

I just realized you have a 1SS which does not have Bose. I have the Bose system, and for 2019 they reconfigured everything anyways so the 2019-20 Bose is completely different from the 2016-18 Bose.

There's two completely different stereo setups for the 1SS and 2SS. Your best bet would be to talk to some of the guys who've done stereo upgrades in the non-Bose systems because there's a different processor than with Bose systems. The car audio section is here:

Just kidding.

I never really looked, but other than the vehicle warning chimes, like seat belt, turn signal, and the reminder to put my foot on the brake when releasing the park brake, maybe in the settings you can turn the chimes off for things like incoming text and that sort of thing?
