Don't know about FL but in most states if you sell outright you will get ass raped by sales tax when buying your new car, rather than getting ass raped by the dealer on a trade. In my experience the numbers have always been a wash so I prefer to trade rather than risk dealing with a craigslist ripoff. At least at 8% sales tax in the Peoples Republic of NY it was like that.

...and yea, I know, most on this board will think I'm nuts and consider it going backwards lol, but I always looked forward to driving the Z/28; the ZL1 I only drive so I don't feel like I'm wasting the money for the payments. Last edited by HoodCheck; 06-17-2020 at 04:21 PM. |

Get what you want HoodCheck. You would be better off to sell your ZL1 and pay off the lien and then get a Z28. Or I know you don’t want to hear this but you can always use yours as a trade to get that Z28 that you find at a dealer without the hassles of trying to sell it on your own. If you are paying for something that you don’t really like then by all means get rid of it and get a Camaro that gives you more enjoyment driving around in. My ZL1 gives me more enjoyment and a driving experience than any other Camaro I have owned since the first Camaro I bought in 1982 which was a Z28. The ZL1 is number 6 of the Camaros that I have bought and the best in my opinion. Good luck!

I am one of those who think you're nuts. I've never driven a z28 so I can't make a comparison, but the ZL1 is something I try to find an excuse to drive just to get out on the road. Staying out of the car is hard for me. So if you don't mind me asking what about the z28 do you like that the ZL1 doesn't have? Or why do you not care to drive the ZL1?

Personally I prefer the 5th gens look wise. I also found the 5th gens to be more comfortable (the ZL1 doesnt lay back quite enough, at least without doing the pin hack). The Z/28, well its kind of hard to explain if you haven't driven one...it is its own class of beast, but I'm betting the ZLE is close to the same ride since its the next gen for the DSSV. For me personally, I loved it as a daily (people constantly claim it rides too rough for a daily, imo its perfect if you like to feel just you and the road). All around, just the look, feel, and rawness of it (down to the lack of sound dampening for the cabin) more fits my bill. I actually tried to get my Z/28 back after trading (was going to trade back), but I missed it by 5 minutes. I know owners of both who prefer their Z/28, but do prefer the ZL1 as a DD...I think they are nuts lol (on the flip side, I also have talked to people who have owned 6th gen ZL1s and ditched them for the Z/28, well 2 people; and people who have owned 5th gen ZL1s and ditched those after driving the Z/28). I *am* also a big fan of the rarity factor too; ZL1s are simply a dime a dozen, absolutely nothing special about them (outside of being pretty damn fast). Try finding a Z/28...they still cost as much as a new ZL1 in many cases (for 1000 miles or less); much rarer car, and one you are unlikely to ever see on the road (because many are stuck in collectors garages collecting dust). During the pandemic, they have actually increased in value slightly, and after initial depreciation, actually retained around the same value for years now. I once got into a conversation with someone arguing the ZL1 was rare; I showed him that at the time, 24 Z/28s were for sale, vs something like 460 6th gen ZL1s for sale at the time (was like 950+ 5th and 6th gen ZL1s combined). Right now its 8 Z/28s (3 unlisted I know of where the sellers don't really *want* to sell, but would for the right offer) vs. 245 6th gen ZL1s; big difference when less Z/28s were made in 14-15 combined than were made in even the pilot year of the ZL1 alone (a bit more than 400 less actually). I understand what you are saying about the 5th gen Camaro and miss my modded 2010 2SS LS3 6 speed sometimes when I see one at a cruise in or car show. I agree that my SS seemed to have more raw hp than my 2016 2SS had or the 2017 ZL1 has that I have now. And to me it was more comfortable than the 6 gens but I do like the Recaros in the ZL1 more than the 5th gen seats and the interior features are better in the 6 gen too. The room in the 5th gen interior is more and has more trunk space also but as I said HoodCheck, you have to be happy driving what you want to drive and either one is a good choice to me!

![]() But, if I could find a 69 Z/28, I'd probably hop on that first, even though it isn't nearly as rare lol. I'll say this much; walking into the garage to see this pos loaner Trax they gave me does make me miss the ZL1 out there lmao. |

Dam I was worried the Z28 would be more of a raw drivers car than the 6th gen ZL1. Although I know some that did muffler deletes and some that added axle back exhausts to their 6th gen ZL1s and it seemed/sounded more raw. Perhaps I feel like the sound of the car or its exhaust is what sounds raw to me. I’m actually legitimately curious to know if you would feel the same way in a ZL1 1LE as you would in a 5th gen Z28, assuming a ZL1 1LE has the same if not more raw characteristics than a 5th gen Z28. |

Perhaps maybe you could test drive a ZLE to see if you like it and then trade in your ZL1 for it unless the Z28 really is your thing. Seems like your attracted to that DSSV suspension the most. |
