So, my wife....
is looking to buy a new Lexus RC and the MSRP is 58K. I’m not well-versed in buying cars like most of you guys are so would it be reasonable to offer 52K? Or would I be locked out of the building? I’m not ordering it this car is actually on the lot. Thanks!

Honestly, I'd start at $48k and see what they say...

I would start at 56 grand and go down from there. Show a real interest in buying the car and the dealership might work with you and the wife.

So this one appears to have about 8k of upgrades and accessories over the base one. About as loaded as you can get on this particular model. Is that about right?

I agree. Low-ball them and work up from there. Dealers are desperate right now. You also want to close the deal at the end of the month. This is when they want to end the month with sales and are a little more desperate. I worked at a dealership as a technician and saw these sales people sweat at the end of the month.

Before making any type of offer, I'd find out what kind of rebates, incentives, etc ..are to possibly be had. I'm not to familiar with Lexus, but in my experience with Honda's and Toyotas (and Toyota owns Lexus) I generally haven't found phenomenal deals to be had like I have with say Ford's and Chevy's. Not saying that's how it is exclusively, but rather just my own personal experience. However with that said I agree with others on here, considering the times we are in. This is one of the greatest times ever to buy a car. After finding out what I mentioned above, then go on the low side of that. You might get 10-15k off this thing. Timing and negotiating are everything. That's my take on it...

Everyone has been locked out of the building for months! Don’t let a low ball throw you off.
Any other local dealers to play against? You can’t go back down if they take it, so start low. Looks like a sharp car |

They will know you don’t know the market if you offer $48K. $52K would be an excellent deal, would need to find the right dealer. $54K would be more realistic and still be a great buy.

Surprisingly, no. The dealers aren’t moving as many cars, but profit margin is better than expected. Keep in mind the factories were closed down for Covid, so in many cases it will be months before the dealer will receive new inventory! They’re not going to give away a car if they won’t have anything to replace it...

$48K is the maximum I'd offer. Honestly I'd probably pump for more right now. I'd tell them that the yellow brake calipers and window tint really doesn't mean a heck of a lot to you, but you like the car. I'd also let them know you're working with other dealers, other brands as well, but don't give specifics ( all you want to talk about is this car). Leave the offer at $48K and wait for a call. Like everyone has said, its a buyers market. Options are major fluff on any cars cost, so they have $ to work with.

If I'm standing there with cash in hand, they can "think" what they want...
