The ZL1 should dyno in the 530-560 RWHP range pretty consistently. There are always outliers and variables though. Anything in the 400s is overly negative. The engines make a certified 650 HP. With a 480 RWHP dyno you're looking at over 25% drivetrain loss which is unheard of.

There is plenty of benefit to having the heads done. Do them while you're at it. As mentioned, might as well go Kong ported blower/snout/103/big intake. But don't scrap the heads.

The build does include quite a bit of pulley overdrive. Ethanol helps but you'll still have some high temps if you do track work.

Dynojets will read ~10 hp per 100 hp higher than a Mustang dyno from my experiences. I would bet my setup goes from low 700s to high 700s just by going from mustang dyno to dynojet dyno.

I am aware of this. I watched a video a while back with Fran from Race Proven Motorsports explaining dynos and how the opinion of Dynojets reading high and Mustangs reading low got started. It has to do with calibration, settings, loading, etc. The engine makes what it makes. Both dynos should give you the same number if both are calibrated and set to the same specifications. I still would hold that a 480 RWHP ZL1 has an issue or an overly pessimistic dyno...Unless it's a lemon car, that's over 25% drivetrain loss which is unheard of in modern drivetrains.

Nope the dyno is just always for whatever been known as a heart breaker. One of these days I will go for some dyno sessions at an open house or something on a local dynojet and make 70 whp

Lowest I’ve seen a stock ZL1 dyno on a mustang was 510whp. I’d be very suspicious of the results if it was 480whp.

No, its a machine, its either calibrated properly and within spec or its malfunctioning and needs to be looked at. It sounds like the shop with numbers that low needs to fix their shit or stop playing games OR at the top of a mountain with super thin air.

I just heard from Joe at CPR, car wont be on Dyno till Tuesday, I'm not going to share my emotions right now because I know I'm just overly excited to get my toy back. I just want to burn some dinosaur fossils! lol

I’m sure you’ll be impressed. When I did my last stage of build I was more than impressed and a little scared. Car made 780/803. I didn’t expect that and the car moves out like crazy. I still have no idea how fast it is as my second pass broke the right axle. I’m almost 4 weeks in to waiting on my DSS axles. Hoping by next week to be in.

Damn! I guess car is only as strong as its weakest link and if you push a machine to its limits it'll break. I just hope my clutch holds out for a while
