This is a nice video for TreedYou to watch going back to our earlier conversation about consistency of automatic cars. Car is automatic and has launch control but et's ranged from one 10.55 to 11.0-11.18 on a private track rental with great prep, 60 foots ranged from 1.7 to 2.0s.

In test and tune session they’re not trying to be consistent. I’m sure just like I do they change launch rpm, burnout technic , tire pressure etc in between runs to try to go faster. Sometimes it works sometimes you go slower.

You don't have to come to it's defense, I'm not shitting on the gt500 and saying it's an inconsistent car or anything, but any high horsepower rwd trying to push a pb can vary to some degree due to the launch and how well it hooks. Even autos to a lesser degree than manuals.

It’s not a mustang thing, if you drag race you try something different each pass to make your time better sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. Especially on private rental or test and tune. Plenty of videos of all makes models running running all over the map.
A lot goes into run track prep, tire pressure, DA , sun out or not, launch rpm, did a slick car just run in front of you, is it mostly a street tire night. A lot that’s why times can vary. This is with ever car I’ve owned from z06 to f150. Last edited by bradmo9; 01-26-2020 at 08:45 PM. Reason: Add |

These GT500s are all over the place. I could see if the skill level between drivers was different. But these guys are all on the same level and their times are ranging by a full second or more. Well that certainly sounds like something I said which all the Mustang guys immediately disagreed with. The GT500s seem very prone to inconsistencies. Even on the same track with the same driver on the same day and in the same conditions. The only times I saw anything more than a difference of 3 tenths was if I screwed up the launch or didn't shift properly. That is driver error. If there is no driver error then there should not be such a wide variance. The only way that could happen outside of driver error is if something is wrong with the car. |

They didn't get into any numbers, just how the cars were out on the roads. Basically they really liked the STI, but said its price tag is really high for what feels like just an updated WRX but said GT500 puts the Mustang in places it's never been. Ford's never really had a Corvette competitor so I think they just shoot their shot with the Mustang Quote:
I'd have to imagine trying different things in a car with that much power could easily lead to bigger variances. Or techniques that used to work in one car might not work as well in another. In my 04, I always got my best times just flashing the converter but in my 07 I had to foot brake to around 1200. |

I love when the Ford fanbois bring up the GT should be compared to the vette whenever someone compares a vette to a GT500. When you can buy 3 C7ZR1s and a C8 for the price of one GT you can't compare those cars, except the fact that the ZR1 still beats the GT. Quote:

If I can't win, I'm taking my ball and going home. ![]() Unfortunately, we all lose when the competition is reduced. Especially given Ford's history in endurance racing. Even Ferrari has reduced their presence. With that said, IMHO C8.R faired well at Rolex 24. Pit time killed them but the pace of the #3 car was impressive. They posted the second fastest lap in GTLM. #4 struggled bit but had mostly great pace as well. I digress, slightly off topic.

Saw my first GT500 in the wild on my way home Friday, right in my neighborhood.
Was all black so hard to see all the details in design. At first I could only tell it was a Shelby, but as I got closer I could see the hood scoop and it was clear it was a 500. Sounded great, was under light throttle and still sounded really nice. Best sounding stock Mustang I have heard for sure. Good looking car, sinister as hell in black.

I probably won't see one in the wild until may or June at the earliest lol. Probably have to hit the auto show next month to see one. |

It's amazing weather here from October to April or even May sometimes, then it is terribly hot all summer long. I am not complaining, rare you can take your dog for a walk in late January and its 70 degrees and sunny. I love the weather here when it isn't summer. If this lottery thing will just come through I can spend my summers in Denver HAHA.
