Another rookie mistake, stalled the car really bad

On the stop sign, I stalled the car. As it stalled, i noticed that the shift lever started shaking really violently until it popped in to neutral from first. Ill be honest, this is the 3rd or 4th time i have stalled the car in the last 4 or 5 months of ownership as i am new to driving a stick but all those previous time, the shift lever never shook violently and the car never popped in to neutral, is that a cause for concern? The car drove normally after. Additionally, the chevy mechanic i spoke to mentioned that they have to replicate the issue before they can open the transmission. I hope i didn't mess up the transmission. I'm not sure if this was related to an event yesterday where i thought i had the car in first but it was probably wasnt engaged correctly and i had slight grinding and it popped in to neutral. So these are a few events that have happened but this doesn't happen under normal driving i suppose. Any ideas?

It's possible you just didn't have it all the way into first. That can happen with any manual on any car if you're not all the way into gear. Does it still go back into and out of first ok? If so I wouldn't worry about it.

Was it grinding? If not, don't really worry about it. I've had similar experiences with second gear when I was first getting used to this transmission and how far back you have to pull it into second.

No grinding today but yesterday there was grinding yes. But yesterday it wasnt a stall, it was just that i probably engaged in to first correctly and it grinded and popped in to neutral. So far i have had that happens twice where it grinded from first and popped in to neutral but i have stalled it a few times :( I must be a terrible shifter

I'm not sure what is going on here, but the car should not pop out of gear or grind while shifting.
I'll suggest you try moving the seat up a bit to insure you are fully depressing the clutch when shifting. Since you are relatively new to a manual, you might be forcing your shifts and not even realize it.

its not while i was shifting, the car was in first gear and i probably released the clutch too fast and it stalled and while it stalled, the shift lever shook and it popped in to neutral

Either not all the way in gear or in the wrong gear is what it sounds like to me

I have done the same thing, most likely not all the way in gear. I normally encounter it if it's cold outside and the trans hasn't warmed yet.

What you described can happen. It's normal and chances are really good you didn't hurt anything. Especially since it drives and shifts normal.

You popped the clutch and killed the engine! No worries your Camaro is good to go. I did that to my ZL1 the other day and it unnerved me! Been driving manuals for 40 years and I still do it from time to time!

I wouldn't worry about it, I'm sure the car is fine, they can take a beating.

What helped me when I started learning some years ago was taking a couple hours on a saturday in an empty parking lot. Go from a stop to 10mph over and over until your brain learns how to do it without a lot of thinking, or more commonly, overthinking.

Practice makes perfect! This is a nice way to do it without the pressure of impatient drivers in their automatics honking at you from behind =).

Happy rowing brother!

I’ve stalled it as well since this is my first stick in 20 years.
since there’s no grinding you’re probably fine. Good choice on the stick shift , move your seat up like someone said and keep practicing , you’ll get better
