OK, you guys have somewhat eased my concerns about the long term effects (maintenance $$$) of stop-start. But what about AFM? Cylinder deactivation has caused a ton of problems, for example, just look at all the 5.3L guys on the GMT900 forums. Ask them how they feel about AFM.

My wife's 2015 Benz has start/stop and has had no issues. My son's 2019 Cruze has same with no issues. Both have about 90k miles. I picked up a 2024 XT5 last year and first thing I did was order a $20 cable that plugs inline with the hood latch switch that permanently disables my stop/start. Problem solved.

Depending on your driving habits, I believe stop/start is great way to shorten battery life.
I inherited a 3-yr old honda cr-v from an elderly aunt, which was the proverbial grocery-getter. The battery held a charge for about 10 days when i got it. Honda specifies an EFB (enhanced flooded battery), which is more tolerant of the stop/start cycling. You can replace EFB with AGM (which is what I did) and get normal life by always disabling the stop/start. For same size, the AGM was $100 cheaper than EFB. Doubt start/stop is saving me that $100 in fuel cost over 3 years. |

Our Subaru has stop start in it and when My wife and/or I get in to drive it we shut that off. I Hate that feature glad I don't have to deal with it in the Camaro.

When the EPA guy refers to the technology as a way to claim "a climate participation trophy" I think it's days are numbered. However, it was originally implemented to achieve numbers under the EPAs instrumented testing so he's also saying our testing procedure is bunk.
