Planning my purchase, needs some help

Greetings friends! Well, as fate would have it, I will now be graduating in August from my DPT program, which puts the ZR1/Z06 new build out of the question. The most important thing to me personally is ordering this car the way I want. Ergo, a wonderful A10 ZL1 is in the near future. Due to certain factors, I basically need to mod the car the way I want right away, or it's not gonna happen for a long time. This is also going to be a daily driven car, seeing the dragstrip but not the track. I have experience with driving a built 02 Z28 (HCI etc with big hit from a TNT F1 Kit) and a Terminator Cobra with full bolt ons and ported blower....both of which were daily drivers.

First Question: Is it possible to take out an auto loan for car and mods? If not, what type of loan would you take out for mods, apart from the auto loan?

Mods looking at getting and having them installed at Late Model Racecraft in Houston!
-Carbon Fiber front splitter, "side skirts," and rear diffuser
-Carbon Fiber front air duct
-Various Carbon Fiber interior bits (REALLY wanna find authentic carbon fiber...no success)

-Whipple 2.9 with 102mm TB and Roto Fab intake (Not sure about pulley/boost)
-Kooks Headers, Borla X-Pipe and S-Type Catback
-And the rest of the 750hp package at LMR..I know know 750 pacakge, but with this full set up, it changes things at the wheels.

Thoughts on power with this build? The boost is the variable. I'd really like to make 700 hp or more. I'm not going to run meth or basically anything but 93 octane. No cam. No heads. If you think it can make 700, which pulley or amount of boost do you roughly think it will need?

Can't really speak on what you'd be making with those mods.

As far as the loan(s) though, if you're credit is good, I'm sure you could find a lender that'll approve more than 100% of the loan to value. I would imagine most won't though but I've never tried so who knows. If you're planning on putting any money down then the simple answer would just be put less down.

You could do a personal loan as well. Approval might not be easy though after you just financed a $60-70k car.

There's a lot of variables overall..income, debt, credit history, how much you're looking to borrow, etc...I'm sure others know more about this stuff than I do.

Good luck to you.

One thing I didn't see on the list I will mention since it's a DD and that are tires. If where you live you don't get much in heavy rains or standing water you should be ok, but the few times I got stuck driving in the rain I found it can be dangerous as we get both a lot of standing water and heavy rains. I have now switched to the Michelins.

My two cents: do not take out a loan or max credit cards for mods.

Just food for thought - if you take out a 100% loan for the car and mods, how are you going to afford to fix your daily driver when/if something breaks? I'm not telling you not to do it, it's totally your life, your decision, but make sure you have a plan.

If your accountant or financial planner isn't advising you to finance the entire amount of the car I would reevaluate your idea in the OP. Interest rates are get higher and higher every quarter. If you can't write off interest or use the liquid money to make more than interest accrued on your car loan you're better off putting down a large down payment or buying less car.

That said you only live once

I am not sure what graduating from DPT program means, but it sounds like you will be graduating with guaranteed work/salary, but little to no liquid cash so you want to finance everything and rely on guaranteed monthly income increase to pay for it?

Firstly, if you're going to mod that much I would buy used. Your warranty is out the door anyway at that point, and these engines are very robust. You would save TONS of money there, easing the burden of the cost of financed mods.

Really not sure what your financial situation is, but there are credit cards that offer 0% for 12-18 months, sometimes on balance transfers only but you can figure that out too.

You do only live once, as has been said, and have always been one to spend a little more to make sure I am happy. Just make sure you're not burdening yourself too much as it really is just a car after all, and financial stress is not worth the enjoyment you get from cars.....it just isn't.

Good luck man!

I would definitely buy a used ZL1 to do all those mods to. They are out there and a lot cheaper than new depending on mileage and year of course. Your warranty will definitely be out the window with mods like that especially the engine mods. Back in March I bought my 2017 used with less than 500 miles for a good price so the deals are out there. I really wasn’t looking to get one this year but it popped up on cars.com and I decided it was too good a deal to pass up. Good luck!

Citibank has 0% for 21 months. However this car is a beast as is. I drive it a year or two and move on. It’s cheaper or the same price as modding and I drive what ever floats my boat every year or two. However, if it’s a keeper mod the crap out of it!

I would not roll mods into a loan. Buy a used ZL1 and whatever money you were going to pay extra on the loan use to buy mods.

...another perspective to consider...

The ZL1 already comes with 650hp/650 ft-lbs. That’s TWO-HUNDRED above the SS which is already a helluva nice ride. You will have a very hard time using all of the Z on the street. It’s already a fully modded 11 second car with a full warranty, compliments of Chevrolet. It doesn’t need any more.

Karmatourer: hahaha, thanks!

To those wondering about the deposit, there will be a trade in for a car we own outright in addition to a cash down payment, probably around 7 grand, in total around 20.

IneedAZ: I live 1/2 way between Houston and Galveston. It rains, but the roads where I am at are pretty awesome. Good call though!

TheMailMan0: Credit Cards, no way. Loan is very very possible.

ST1LE: Doctor of Physical Therapy. See above for down payment. I am adamant regarding getting a new car. I want to know how every mile was driven in addition to how the motor was broken in. That's one reason I'm not going for a Z06/ZR1. My 04 Terminator was bought used and I found out later that there were nitrous "pills" in the fuel rails. I don't care if it's CPO or not, they aren't going to disclose aspects like that, if that makes sense?

LT1Greg: The powertrain will be out the window, however, an after market warranty like the one on the ATI website is possible.

Gunkk: To each their own, and I appreciate the input! However, my previous Z was hilariously quick compared to a stock ZL1. After 7 1/2 years of school, I want a brand new low-mid 130mph car in the 1/4 that drives really mild, hence no cam, no heads.

I know you won't use it all on the street other than "spirited driving." I also have a 1/4 mile track very close and really want to do 1/2 mile events. I'd rather have it and not need it/use it, then want it and not have it.

Thanks everyone for the input!
