Moving - need advice
Hey Guys,
My wife and I are making the unfortunate move from Austin to Michigan. While I'm sad my car will have to deal with the worst roads in the country, my primary concern is that our sub-division is off a dirt road (not my decision!). The sub itself is paved, but it's roughly a .4 mile drive on dirt to get back to pavement. For those that potentially have experience in this area, is this doable with a 1LE? My car is immaculate and I'd hate to sell it, but I'm worried I'll be paranoid to leave the house. While I realize the decision is ultimately mine, I'm looking for advice that may steer me in the right direction on this. Thanks in advance. -Eric |

Good luck dude !! Have you looked at the actual road? I would hold off on making a decision to sell before you get eyes on the actual road.
if the road is fairly smooth and compact dirt it shouldn't be too much of a nightmare to deal with just take it slow. What I would also worry about is what does the transition from dirt road to pavement look like. Is it a giant curb you have to go over to get on the paved portion? That would be incredibly annoying to deal with. Look at the actual road and then make a decision.

If it is not your daily it may be doable depending on the dirt road itself. If there are constant holes in the road from rain then I’d be freaking out too.
As for me, I wouldn’t care how nice the house was or what a great deal it could be, a dirt road is a no for me. I’ve done it with previous cars and I will never do it again. |

Thanks guys, it's not my daily driver. I work 100% remotely as does my wife, so I always have another car available. At the same time, I won't want to have this car in a garage that I never drive.
I have seen the transition and the road is rather "good" for a dirt road. However to you point, after a major rain I would expect the road to be absolute crap. |

Invest in rock guards and PPF. If you take it slow you should be fine. I have driven mine several times to my camp in the Adirondacks and it's on a dirt road. Just dont be ripping any donuts.

How much of an impact does gravel / caliche / unpaved roads have on our tires??
Let's say the OP was a daily driver and had to deal with the 1/2 mile in & out every day & just crawled along...would 1 mile of bad daily roads eat up these soft race compounds?? |

I live out in the country, and have a 250 ft long gravel drive and apron area. Plus the roads are chip and seal in my immediate area. The stock goodyears pick up every rock in the road. Hence the mud flaps and the expel on the rockers. Other than that its not a big deal.
As long as the gravel is not rutted out, you are fine. There isnt a lot of ground clearance on these rigs otherwise.
