Hopefully it all works out for you my brother.

Wow, hope it works out for you.

If there is a new design they’ve been working on, I’d hope it’s making its way into new cars. Same for the oil pumps...of course I say this with a bit of self interest, I have a Z on order.

Good luck and any info you can provide is appreciated.

I’m thinking along the same lines as you. The pump gears are probably common to all the 10 speeds. I believe the GT Mustangs, F150s, higher end GM trucks, and the SS Camaro's also use this trans or a variant of it. I’ve read about noise complaints in the Fords too. Hopefully GM and Ford will both get the updated gear sets. The challenge will be determining if a later build has the revised gears. I doubt it will get much publicity.

It sounds like they are putting some variant of the 10sp in everything. They used a Tahoe to compare to mine. I will definitely keep you guys updated. I’m hoping they have the parts Mon/Tues and have it done by the end of the week. Probably wishful thinking.

I promised an update, so here it is...

My pride and joy is finally home after 31 days. The drive gear and pump gear were replaced with the new angle gear design. My service advisor spent 20-30 minutes explaining the process and why it took so long. GM visited and looked the car over and there was a lot of discussion/guidance between engineers, GM and the dealership. I did ask whether the new design was due to my specific issue or if it was already in the works and it sounds like mine was the reason. Aren’t I just special? He said there are no TSB’s yet, but they will probably be creating one. Anyway, the transmission is smooth as butter and sooo much quieter now. I hear no rattles, whines or anything out of the ordinary. Hopefully it doesn’t have issues down the road because I can’t fight the mod bug any longer. Time for a couple more ponies.

Thanks for the update. The 2017 I looked at had a noisy pump gear too. It sounded similar to supercharger whine when the sales associate started it up for me to listen.

Really glad they fixed your car and it didn’t turn into a buyback. Hopefully you can now enjoy driving it.

Awesome news, hope it stays trouble free!

As far as redesigning the pump and gears specifically for you, I’m having a difficult time believing GM on that. From the day they actually found your issue, to the day they said it was redesigned and fabricated, appears to be 10 working days. I do believe you’re the first person to have an in service repair done (on a ZL1). I also think the part was already in development, or redesigned before your service visit. I say this because there are lot of A10 complaints from Ford truck owners, most specifically related to whining. With those complaints, some are indicating they think it’s a bad transmission pump.

Without your post, some people ( including me) may have assumed a whine or rattle may be normal. Thanks for the info!

I totally agree with you. There is no way they redesigned it that quick. There had to be something in the works already.

As far as being trouble free...not even one day! Engine oil low light came on. Stopped the car, checked the oil and it’s all the way to the top of the hash marks. Pulled the negative battery cable and it went away for 3 trips. Started up after work today, it’s back. I guess the one day with my car was fun, back to the dealer ugghh

So, I decided to jack the car up and take a look for myself. Dealership left the oil level sensor disconnected. Plugged it in, good to go.

Nice, better than going back to the dealer and waiting around!

I wonder if the 19s had this fixed... my A10 doesn't have any issues so far(knock on wood).
