LT < SS < SS 1LE < ZL1 < ZL1 1LE in performance rankings, if that's what you care about. So, why aren't you driving a ZL1? |

Wyzz Kydd, you clearly prefer your pony cars with V8's, a preference I share BTW. There is a place for the V6 cars and it is pretty arrogant of you to claim otherwise. The "then why didn't you get a ZL1?" comment is spot on. Your opinions are just that, "your opinion"
I have always thought and still do that the V6 car is a sports car and the V8 is a muscle car. Just because the V8 car is now more capable doesn't change my "opinion".

My genuine assumption is that he can't afford it, he's insecure about it, so he feels a need to deride other vehicles to feel satisfied with his own.

I'm sure your 1LT makes up for shortcomings in other areas for you, namely below the …..(fill in the blank in your case). Maybe WyzzBoy or WyzzChild would be a more appropriate screen name.

I had a 5th Gen Camaro 6 banger 6 speed back in the day. Nice performer in first and 2nd gear. Beyond 3rd gear not a whole lot of punch. It would pull but not punch. I have had some 60s error muscle cars too. Lets compare it to my 383 magnum engine in a 69' B body RR. The 6 banger would run with that and definately have more top end. But as I analyzed the situation it all came down to gearing and not raw engine performance. In my opinion the 383 even with the 3 speed auto and I think 3:26 rear end would just pull better off the line but the 3 and 4 speed gearing back then just can't compare with todays closely geared transmissions. The 3 speed Auto would just be dropping way to many RPMs during each gear change causing much power loss not getting to the ground. Now match that old vintange 383-335Hp.425Lbs Tq to a modern 6 speed and it would easily be a very low 13 sec car without touching the engine. So in summation the 383 was the base performance engine then. Add the new gearing to the old 440s and I think they would be running with our SS's. |

I had a 5th Gen 6 banger 6 speed. It was a great car. I loved it. Fun car to drive. I was hesitant of getting rid of it. In the end I just had to return to the V8 sound and torque. Like I said it was a great car. I just like the SS much better. The V8 just has tq everywhere and reminds me of the vintage muscle cars when banging gears. But you never miss something you never had. |

You can compare the 4th gen LS1 to the 6th gen LGX. They're much more similar then the 5th and the 6th gen V6. I have no dog in this race I don't even have the Camaro anymore just being honest |

I'm in the market for a 6th gen Camaro, and I honestly don't care much if it's a 6 or 8. (8 sounds better and has more power, but is heavier, thirstier and I ride roads that give Miatas fits.) I come from the world of motorcycles. My last bike would shit directly down the throat of a Corvette ZR1, let alone some 'normal' V8.
![]() The problem is that Wyzz and his ilk, of which there are MANY, make me want to say '**** it.' and get a Fiesta ST instead. That car has no compunctions of it being a 'sports car.' There's no argument there, it's just a 'sporty' little go kart, unlike the modern muscle that can blur the lines of sport, pony and muscle. I do this INSANE thing called driving on twisty roads. (What a lunatic, I know.) I have ZERO interest in 0-60, 0-100, quarter miles, roll racing, burn outs or sitting at the Starbucks masturbating over my V8 engine. That said, I don't mind the V6 as much, but if every gas stop I'm going to have to deal with some chump asking me to give my 'V8' some revs for them or some shit I'll just go Fiesta. I don't care to be harangued about 'not a real Camaro' 'not a v8' or people laughing every time I stop moving the damned car. Is this the case? The Fiesta doesn't look as good, sound as good or have the 'presence' but no one will ever give a shit. I'm just some kid, even though I'm not a kid, in a hopped up Econo shit-box. (No aftermarket exhaust, 4 banger cars sound 'bleh.') I can't even fathom what the Mustang EB and Camaro 4 banger people have to put up with. Do V8 owners go from home to home and check all Chargers/Challengers/Camaros/Mustangs to make sure they have the 'proper' number of cylinders, and if they don't they slash the tires and spray paint 'get a real car' on the windshield?

You are also correct that the V6 is a very nice engine. In an early post on this thread I described it as a marvel of modern technology, it is. My initial response was prompted by the statement that the V6 was so good the V8 didn't even need to be considered, which I think is clearly wrong. The follow up that I disagreed with was that the V6 is a better value. I think this is also wrong. Is it a great value, yes, better than the V8, I don't think so. I say that having owned a 2016 SS for two years, my current 2018 SS 1LE for 5 months and having put about 1,000 miles on a loaner 2017 RS. I'm not driving a ZL1 primarily because this is my daily driver and I didn't think the extra power would be worth the money given most of the driving would be in Atlanta traffic. Another reason is because I plan on buying an F250 SuperDuty so I can do more bass fishing and maybe pick up an RV to take to the gun matches I compete in. Next year if the front end looks get cleaned up I will probably buy a ZL1 1LE for weekend only driving and continue to use my SS as my DD. Last edited by Wyzz Kydd; 01-19-2019 at 03:19 PM. |

As far as I know there is no agreed upon definition of what 'sports car' means. Over 40 years of driving and multiple cars, some sporty, some muscle and some sports cars I've formed my own opinion on that subject. To me the V6 Camaro is a very nice sporty car. Yes I do prefer American V8s, but bottom line I've always been an adrenaline junky which as lead me to buy/drive a variety of fast vehicles ranging from my fathers 1973 Porsche 911T, my GTO Judge, Kawasaki GPZ 1100, Honda Sabre, Duster 340, Twin Turbo RX7, Turbo Miata, WRX STI and the two Camaros. The best two of all of those in terms of performance have been the Twin Turbo RX7 and the Camaro SS 1LE. |

BTW, other than my unfortunate comment, which I apologized for, I made a point in my other responses of acknowledging that the V6 has a lot of positives. But to be brutally honest, I thought it was struggling under hard acceleration in a way that I did not like and I definitely didn't think it was more nimble than my SS 1LE or my SS. I also did not care at all for the exhaust, even with dual mode which I thought didn't do much in the V6. It looks good, I like the seats, the stereo isn't that hot, but neither is the one in my SS, and it's got reasonable performance, particularly for a NA V6. |

I don't care for any type of Mustang or Camaro that has a 4 banger in it, but I don't slash their tires nor do I harass them at Gas stations. I had a nice conversation with a Mustang owner at a gas station not to long ago. He had an EcoBoost. I don't care for it, but it's not my car so it doesn't really matter. He bought what he wanted/could afford and seemed pretty happy with it. It looked good, a nice orange. Not sure about what my ilk is, but you're entitled to your opinion on that however wrong it may be. |

Now Wyzz Old Man would probably be more appropriate. With regard to your rather stupid implication I don't do internet porn so you'll have to believe what you like. |
