TPMS & Drag Radials

Curious if anyone has been able to keep the TPMS functionality while running drag radials. I am in the market for some 17" wheels and Drag Radials and I would like to monitor the tire pressure as normal and not have any lights on in my dash. Also, would the dealership have to install the new monitors and reset my system? Thanks!

I am curious about ways of getting that light off as well.

It seems like the warning comes on around 28psi, someone will know the exact number. The problem with drag radials at least for me is I run under that pressure all the time. I run at most low 20’s all the time and lower it when I really want to hook. Even with the monitors installed I still have a light.

Running a low tire pressure warning is ok, the TPMS inactive light is the pain. Not sure if the TPMS in a air filled tube in the trunk trick would work here.

What are the ramifications of not running a TPMS at all on the rear? Would it put the car in limp mode or something?

No problem at all... just a light.

My issue right now is trying to get them programmed every time I swap wheels. My programmer doesn't work on the 2019.

That isn’t true. We had new wheels and tires on my car when we were originally setting it up.

When the TPMS light came on, the car pulled over 100rwhp from the car. We were running on the dyno and repeated multiple times. Once we did the sync to get the new tpms sensors connected, the power came back.

We saw no other errors and we thought the same thing that it was just a light...dyno showed a different story.

Maybe it’s different on the ‘19...

I was told no issue other than the light. Just mounted my DRs without TPMS, so this would really suck if it pulls power on a tuned car.

So do I need to put the TPMS on my drag radials and get the re-flash tool??

I could have sworn I read there is a sequence to turn off the TC with no TPMS sensors that must be done at every startup so it will work. Can't seem to find it, might have some better luck in the drag racing forum.

I asked Pray about this and he indicates he has not seen any loss of power.

I have ran 20” wheels with tpm and low pressure. I have also ran a full set of rims with no tpm at all. Never noticed any power loss and have always been able to select tc like normal.

Laynlo does the same, but he also hasn’t had the no tpms error come up because he has driven such short distances. I don’t know about low pressure, but the no TPMS error, 100% for certain, pulled over 100whp from my ride when I was at the 550whp level and showed absolutely no error on the scanner.

We were sitting there (Laynlo was there with me...in fact he was the one on the dyno), upped from 5 psi to 7 psi and we lost power...almost took it back to the stock power levels. We swapped pulleys back to the 5psi level...power still gone. Went and got the device to resync the new TPMS sensors...no other changes made...bam...power back immediately. Upped boost to 7psi and all was right in the world. We were able to change the driving mode to track and turn off nannies too...dyno simply showed lost power...

Sorry, I wasn’t referencing the low pressure...I was talking about the TPMs error. I swapped wheels after the initial dyno so I had my new wheels with sensors that hadn’t synced. We had to drive for quite a while to get to the dyno and the tpms light came on.

I can’t say if there were variables in the computer program between years. I can say with 100% certainty what happened on my car. There were no other variables. We were racking our brains trying to figure out what was going on...we probably ran 8 dyno runs while we were troubleshooting.

Just my experience, although it does not add any clarity to the issue. I put new TPMS in my current street wheel and tire setup a while back, wasnt able to sync them to the car. So as far as the car was concerned there were no TPMS. when i went to the track like this, getting the TPMS error in stock trim except for the wheels and tires ran a 12.21. So i dont think it was pulling any power with the sensors not sync'd to the car.

Recently got a new TPMS tool and was able to sync them.

I have no idea on a 19. All my track experience with these is in the 5th Gen... never had an issue and used to drop my pressure down to 17 psi with and without sensors installed.
