Axle dyno, thoughts?

I am finally getting to getting my car on a dyno and the local shop has a axle dyno. I haven't heard anyone going to a shop with one, any thoughts on it?

I would like to own a set. They have units out there with very high hp ratings. No wheel slip is a nice thing and something I am always fighting as the power goes up. Do you know what brand and model they are?

I would treat it just like any other dyno and not get fixated on the before numbers. It is all about improvements from before to after mods.

It's purely a tuning tool. Like was said, only go off of before and after numbers and use the same one. Like a mustang dyno your numbers are limited to the inputs by the dyno operator.

My local shop has a Dynapack and it is a lot better than a regular rolling your tires on a barrel dyno. Specifically for safety reasons, the wheel spin issues that the above poster wrote about and that it takes up a lot less square footage of shop space.

I consider it perfectly fine. As stated by others...only pay attention to before and after HP/TQ changes...not to the specific number. Well unless the number is wildly off from what it should be like it only showing 100 hp on a 400 hp motor.

It's a better tool all around, allows you to do load tuning, instead of just dyno queen numbers.. ie dynojet.

True loaded hub dynos are fantastic for tuning. You have no worries.

The majority of chassis dynos I see including dynojets have a load cell built in. They are kind of worthless without one.
