Kaizenspeed Camaro’s Go Back to Track...RIP Driveshafts

Well...finally got the air I wanted, 65 degrees out. Came out ready to run a 9.2-9.3, broke driveshaft first hit. Thankfully the car still “drove” but under any light load something starts slapping around under my seat. I have a DSS chromoly sitting at the shop but might give myself 48 hours to clear my head. Think its time to move onto Phase 2.

Also our red Whipple ZL1 was ready to improve on his 9.8....first hit he blew up his brand new DSS Carbon Fiber driveshaft. Carbon-fetti went everywhere. Will be a fun call on Monday to DSS about that.

As always I try to make sure to report on everything for the good of the community.

Sorry to hear that for both of you. Chromoly seems to be the way to go. Josh (crash) broke a carbon fiber then an aluminum so he went chromoly and its all good now except he broke the rear end.

That really sucks. All the prep getting ready and neither car gets in a single pass.

The guy who works at Magnuson had a DSS carbon driveshaft and it broke on the first trip to the track as well.

Yep Mike broke the carbon first time out. Chromoly's seem to have less issues and are cheaper, the aluminums are having problems also at the upper power levels.

My chromoly DSS is sitting at Kaizenspeed but....we have a customer that wants my block so I think I am gonna shut down for the year. Working quotes on the new long block....gonna be an expensive and wild winter. However for spring I aim to be the fastest privately owned Gen 6 in the US.

That's at least 5 carbon driveshafts that have broken that I know of. Something is not right about them and they need to fix that. Supposedly good for 1200 hp or more which none of the Camaro's are in that HP range. They are braking in the 750 to 950 range. Pray broke one on the Dyno at way less then 750.

Wonder if there are any differences between M6 or A8/10 cars (in terms of scattering carbon fiber shafts)? Or maybe just a bad batch production-wise.

The manual Gen6's dont' make power.... or drag race much

Think the design of the carbon fiber in this application is just junk.

It sucks that it broke on you before you got any runs in however that is pretty impressive that it held up that long considering the times you are running.
