Also be sure to ask about the incentives that apply to you, like the Chevy Conquest rebate and GM Employee Pricing. If you qualify for both of those, plus buy the car for invoice, you just saved more than $5,000.

I started my day with kbb trade-in value in hand so I had some idea of what I wanted to hear. Only the last dealer (Mcclarty Daniels) was right in line and all three dealerships are nice size companies.

Why more so than the 1LT? The SS I can understand.

That's been my experience. It's always better to sell it yourself.

Not sure if it's true, but people who can afford a 2LT with some options like the V6 are maybe willing to spend the extra dollars to get an SS instead. The step is not that big. On the other hand, people who can't afford more than a 1LT won't spend more (tighter budget). So the 2LT is some sort of a "I want some features but I don't want the big engine" type. And my guess is that those personally rs are not the majority.

If I loom at the limited market in Québec here, either you have a very base model, or you have very equipped 2LT or SS. Not much in between.

I may be wrong, but that's the impression it gives me.

When you try to sell it yourself, then you have to deal with the tire kickers, flakes and no shows. People can be worse than dealerships sometimes.

This ^ and also this for the value of your car: https://www.galves.com/

One thing to consider selling yourself vs. dealers is the tax you save trading.

And at the dealer always contact them through the internet FIRST and start working deals against each other. Buy at the end of the month. Be willing to travel to get a good deal. Work them just like they work you.

You fail to take into account most people are usually worse than dealers in their lowball offers on street pricing. This optimistic sentiment that you can always find a better deal from private party rather than a dealer is actually not true.

People can be the worst low ballers. For instance, ever had a garage sale?

Also, even if the offers were a little better than what a dealer would give you, you have to schedule time aside from your day to wait for all the no shows and flakes on your precious weekends to look at the car.

This is my experience in selling cars private party and they were not junk. These were enthusaist based vehicles like Camaro Z28's, Corvette Z51's, Chevelle SS's, not little dopey Honda or Toyota 4 door economy cars.

Maybe that was the problem though, the dopey little economy cars were the ones people would pay a mint for.

Obviously you’re going to get lots of opinions on the best sources of used-car value estimates, so I’d suggest you compare them all. For example, in dozens of transactions I’ve never found NADA to be as “generous” or as accurate in terms of including options as KBB or other sources. (Many dealers offer a KBB valuation tool on their websites, BTW.) However, the KBB Instant Cash Offer program that offers to buy your car is totally worthless, because participating dealers aren’t bound to pay you that amount and will come up with all kinds of reasons to reduce the value of your car.

It really doesn’t matter anyway, because most dealers (and loan officers) will tell you they don’t use whatever source you’re quoting. To protect yourself, you need to comparison shop. And if you don’t like the deal, walk away; the dealer will call you the next day with a better price anyway.

I traded my ZL1 on an 18 Silverado. Before making the deal I shopped around and found a Centennial Edition Silverado that I really wanted. All they had to do was match the offer from the other dealership (I had a photo of the offer). Nope... 10k lower.

The salesman was pissed that they wouldn't even come close. Said they don't like to deal in high end cars... Dealership I traded to put some rear tires on, certified it and sold in less than a week.

The advice is invaluable. Had I had it to do again I would have gotten the 16 2SS to begin with, but I can only chalk it up as one of those dumb impulsive mistakes.

Fingers cross the remaining 2018’s begin to attract more incentives as we move into fall. Shopping for a new 2SS in this market is like dating the super hot girl: gotta pay to play.

I sold my 2011 2LT to Carvana for $12K. The process was pretty simple. I took a pic of the odometer and answered some questions. After they made the offer I made an appointment and they picked it up at my house and handed me a check on the spot. The dealership offered $8K in trade and Carmax offered $10K.
