Corsa barely sounds any different than stock from what I've heard. Pretty much if you want a LOUDER, deeper sounding car from an axleback, more drone will accompany that. It's definitely a no go for anyone that is super anti drone though, as I warned earlier. But I like having an exhaust that I know is there. And for the money and the sound, Kooks is great.

That being said, the only way you get a sound that's marginally and truly different than NPP is adding in headers/cat delete/mid pipe to an aftermarket axle-back. I get the logic behind a Kooks axle-back if you're going from headers all the way to the back in order to stay consistent (because their headers are an awesome product), but I don't see any justifiable reason to get just their axle-back system (besides cost). Borla and Corsa for the 6th Gen offer ZERO drone, so there's no issues there. After driving around with what 3 other exhaust companies had to offer, I threw a corsa on and never went back. My $.02

Trust me when I say these 2 things. The Kooks axleback changes the tone of this car more than any other exhaust I've heard. I wasn't "skimping" out, I wanted something that would actually be louder and sound different. I had a previous experience with a straight through style muffler like they use and was pleased. That's why I tried this one too. I'm sorry the cost of a Kooks axleback isn't up to the level you think one should spend on a ZL1 axleback, but that was just icing on the cake for me. I can buy whatever exhaust is out there, but I'm not buying a Corsa or Borla when they both retain that raspy, boat motor sound of the stock exhaust. Drone tolerance and perception is up to the individual, so I can't tell someone else what they can or can't tolerate. What I can say is that drone is blown out of proportion by a lot of guys on this forum and the Vette forums. That's why you guys never get a different sound. If you truly want a louder different sound, more drone will be there. There's no way around it. |

By looking at that picture, could anyone that's not in the know tell me which cost more? The answer is no. The OP wanted more sound. The Kooks will give him that. Corsa will be a mild variant of the stock exhaust at best. I've not stated anywhere that the drone was terrible. If it was that bad, I would not be running this axleback on my car. I just know some people are super sensitive when it comes to exhaust resonance so I threw the disclaimer out there. But as for me, I am 100% satisfied. I don't know why you continue to say you get what you pay for. That saying is so outdated. We all know you definitely don't always get what you pay for. But I got what I wanted. The fact that it's a cheaper system than the ones you speak of is a bonus. If Corsa or Borla had the sound I wanted I would've happily purchased one of those also.

One is essentially a stainless steel pipe with tips and one has an actual resonator. You're paying for less metal and less R&D. AKA, you get what you pay for. I'm not sure what's confusing here.
I gave you the benefit of the doubt, and thought I was missing out on something, so I listened to your sound clip. How about I just post a video when I get the time. After all, this forum is for information and comparison, not empty arguments.

You get what you pay for! If I was staying with in the warranty and didn't car about the NPP valves I would do what my friend did.. we installed the Corsa Axle back at my shop.. Then Phastek did the Borla X pipe.. (because it wasn't loud enough!) it's a little louder and deeper now and retains the cats.
If warranty isn't an issue headers and Borla Atak.. the great thing on the Borla you still have the Valves to control where as Corsa doesn't.. I have a friend that had the 1st stainless works setup Headers and catback.. he didn't like it drone and wasn't the right sound for him he liked my wifes car much better( Borla headers and Borla Atak). I've heard Flow Masters from several 6 gen in Houston they sound ok at full throttle but lack it at idle.. sounds like a boat exhaust dipping in and out of the water.. if you been around boats you will get it.. The phastek shop car sound is pretty good with that MBRP... The point is "Well I have been using Borla since, long before my wifes car was the R&D car for the 6gen" lol I sound like Mathew in the MKZ commercials.. No I have had borla on my 96 z28, my 2010, 2016, and shortly the 17 zl1 with carbon tips.. Borla takes great pride in sound and performance I had a chance to do a episode as well on All girls garage.. They went with another SS because they know that a blower on a car will have different sound than a SS will amunce other things.. infact take a gander at other companies most list the same part numbers for a ZL1 or SS.. That's how much Borla cares about there products.. There is a product designed for each model and unique sound not a 1 fit all exhaust. BTW I run headers and stock NPP for now... it's driving me crazy not to sound as good as the wife's car.. I would bet anyone that she has the loudest 6 gen in the nation that's not cammed and has mufflers.. it's not only loud but sounds good to.. Windy day at the track with a small phone mic.. there is also one from sealy 1/4 mile track thumb through my public channels... the most interesting is the loudness at Texas motor speed way at the end of the video.. loudest car there!

Ya it didn't sound that bad we cut off the stock muffler before we installed Corsca extreme and you can believe we tried it to! We were impressed but corsa still sounded better especially the back pop! I'd probably do that if I could never afford the Corsa or Borla or wanted absolute weight savings.. but then again you have 30 lbs of cats..for guys that want to stay in warranty lol.. definitely my 3rd choice over another aftermarket exhaust or stock

Borla is excepted from every major manufacturers as OEM equipment. It is simply the best exhaust money can buy for axle back and cat back systems. It is not inexpensive by any means. You get what you pay for.

when you guys say "cut the stock muffler off" what exactly does that mean? take out the suitcase part and use pipes to join the tips to the cats instead? thanks for clarifying.

Exactly that... it's a cheap way of upping the sound without buying anything significant. If it's still not loud enough for you at that point, its go buy an exhaust/headers time..
