I THINK I NEED A NEW CLUTCH needs suggestions

OK (I did try and post in the right section but I don't think anybody looks there much lol)

My car has right at 600 hp to the rear wheels. 470 ish tq cant remember exactly the tq. I have been feeling like the car wasn't moving like it should it didn't seem the have that extra neck snapping power that I was used to. I have to let my clutch out between a 1/3 and half way before it seems to grab as well , and it just seems to shift weird sometimes.

I already talked to a friend of mine who happens to be the best mechanic At the chevy dealership that I go to and he said he would charge 500.00 to put the clutch in )maybe a bit more if he has to remove the headers to install it.) question one, does that seem like a fair price. ( I am not naming dealer or person just incase)

Question 2, What clutch should I get? I also don't want to spend 1800 on a new clutch that set up to handle 1300 tq when I will never even get close the that number. But I also want it to get all the power down and never have to replace it. I would like it to come with a new flywheel also. any suggestions? advise? Thank you in advance.

Why don't you talk to your performance shop that did all your work, im sure they would match you up with the right clutch you need

Luk makes good clutches. I used one in my old Beretta GT 5 speed but I've read good stuff about them from a couple Z28 owners. If I were you I'd put a little bit more stout clutch than what came from the factory. Won't be as smooth of an engagement but it sounds like you like to play hard and have extra ponies under the hood.

Clutch kit should be around $300 and your guy's $500 quote for labor install sounds about right.

Clutch in the SS is the same twin disk as the ZL1 basically. Should hold up to 600whp just fine unless you are beating the shit out of it on the drag strip or driving it like shit.

I would have your mechanic buddy do some of the common tests to see if the clutch is indeed slipping.
