Oil life seems to run the same Changed it at 1500 miles I am 26% at 7200 miles Will change it before 20% the car will be around 8500-9000 That will be a 7500 miles Why do you want to change it more often? (Except if dark or track ) New engines and synthetic oil are design for longer changes.... Not like the 80s with std oil where it was something like every 3500..... |

Has anyone tried using only Royal Purple oil in their cars?
They claim that you'll get a bit better gas mileage and power. I recall back in 1994 when I began 1/4 mile racing in CT many said that Royal Purple was the bomb. |

Mobil 1 5w30 is what the dealer uses to change the oil. I posted somewhere else here that shows the part number on my receipt matches the number on the bottle. And Mobil 1 is good for 10,000 miles without worrying if it is still lubricating properly. So the life meter on the ZL1 is 5000 miles'ish so at 7k you still have lots left. My meter is at 16% and it is only 2700 miles since being changed.
So I know the % left goes by revs mainly, so if sitting in stop and go traffic it for sure won't last long. Plus you are burning more oil with zero miles.

Every brand, many viscosities, have their believers. You will rarely talk them out of it. Why not stay with what the GM engineers recommend as opposed to internet posts (no matter how well intended) or vendor promises?

I agree the 3500 miles from years ago has doubled these days with good oils.

my gut tells me that with a GDI engine, and premium oils; the accompanying fuel dilution associated with that fuel system would dictate 5k-6k max between OCI's; maybe even less....... after a certain point viscosity erodes quickly.
just my 2 cents.

That is easily determined with an oil analysis and after 4.5 years with these engines we would know it by now

How does the system work? The GM Oil Life Monitor System is not a mileage counter. It is actually a computer based software algorithm that determines when to change oil based on engine operating conditions. There is no actual oil condition sensor. Rather, the computer continuously monitors engine-operating conditions to determine when to change oil. Over the years, millions of test miles have been accumulated to calibrate the system for a variety of vehicles. The system was first introduced in 1988 and is now on more than 10 million GM vehicles.

GM recalibrates oil life monitoring system for 2013 and newer models [Feb 14, 2013] The information can also be found in the Camaro Owner's Manual on pages 25, 266, and 267. Page 25 has a brief description with instructions on how to reset it. Pages 266 and 267 contain a detailed explanation. --Cal |

I have to update my post, had wrong info, My kid misread. LOL
Correct info is... Changed my oil at 1500 miles. I'm at 6000 miles now. 22% left on the Life meter. I checked my oil today because of this post. DOWN A QUART at 4.5k miles. I do use rev match and drive well over the speed limit. Not very good I guess, Guess I drive hard with only 22% life left.
