This is a very simple answer. Ask the Guy in the GT500 what tires allowed him to hook and beat your ass. Get those. Lol. I had two GT500's. They hook terribly. If he got a tire that allows his to hook buy them.

Looking at doing
Front: Michelin Sport 4S - 305/30/20 or MICHELIN® PILOT SPORT CUP 2 on stock ZL1 rims Rear: Toyo Proxes R888R - 315/30/20 on stock ZL1 rims 2 things that concern me are; 1. I am hoping both front and back will be 'rub free'? 2. Not a fan of having different tire manufacturers as I would rather stick with one?

As far as different manufacturers front and back that's a hang up you'll need to discuss with your therapist. jk
I have the same thought process, but it really is not valid, provided the tires are of the same type. The only (lesser) concern is looks and sound...are the fronts louder than the rears...or vice versa? Bottom line: imo, if you've done your homework and those are the tires you want, get 'em. |

Excellent point about look and sound? I am assuming the rears would be louder vs the front and how they compare to the stock Goodyear's I have no clue?

I don't know about the Pilots, but the R888R's are relatively quiet compared to their predecessor: R888. The R888R's hook incredibly well...just be ready to replace them after 4k.

Woah, 305 on the stock front 10" ZL1 wheel? First off, unnecessary. Second, stands a high chance of rubbing. Third, it can only slow you down, especially for straight line work (Much more friction). Just stick with a 285 up front, don't mess with a good thing. 305/30/20 is SIGNIFICANTLY taller than the stock 285/30/20, at least .6"-.7" which is too much IMO. The stock stance has a factory rake of about 3/4", if you put a 305/30/20 up front and a 315/30/20, you'll be reducing that difference to either 0" or about .2" (calculated, every tire runs a bit different and I know that Michelin characteristically runs WIDE which is even WORSE for what you're trying to do, it can only mean the tire is wider and taller which again is going in the wrong direction). If you were talking about putting a notoriously small tire on there that fit more like a 295/30, then maybe it wouldn't be so bad.
Just run a 285, or at max a 295, but I've seen and heard WAY too many things about owners with Vettes and Camaros trying to push the limits on the front end and ended up with negative results with even a 295, let alone a 305. The R888Rs in the back will fit no problem, perfect setup with the stock fronts or with a matching 285/30/20 R888R. If you want the most problem free, worry free setup, then just order R888Rs all around. |

285/30/20 Front 305/30/20 Rear You are asking to run: 305/30/20 315/30/20 If you had a ZL1 1LE and wider front wheels, then I'd say fine. But you have a 10" wheel and a car that was programmed not to work with that tire setup, plus you very well likely may have rubbing issues with the MRC. The 315/30/20 rear tire is fine, you can't hurt it with that. But a 305 front is definitely not a good idea IMO. Like I said, just order the 285/30/20 R888R to match. |

r888's are the only tire I would consider for any kind of highway acceleration with 700whp or more. They worked great on my car; with a bit of wheel slip based ignition retard. I sold my last go fast car before the r888r came out so I can't comment on it, but if it's anything like the r888 it's a great tire. You want a stiff sidewall at high speed. Some guys like the challenge and thrill of pushing a soft wall, but... if you want to make sure you go home in your car... Stick with a sticky, stiff sidewall tire. That being said, if you want to put down the power you paid for, lose the 20" wheels. Just extra mass (less whp), less sidewall (even with r888's you want sidewall).
IDK if HP tuners has it, but on all the 2jz (the fast street cars), regardless the tire, set the things up to slip between 10-30% wheel speed (depending on how driver wants it). Research has found that slipping a bit above 10% gives the most traction. That's something you want to think about in terms of power curve or in terms of traction control settings. With a posi blower, that power comes on hard early so it can be a bit harder to pedal into the 'groove' in terms of the right amount of slip, compared to a turbo with a nice wastegate duty cycle, or a centri blower car. |

I am glad you are all set. I know just having 295's on the front of my GT350, it tramlined all the time. It was unnerving. When I got the ZL1 with 285's, it is completely gone. Of course part of it could be the car, but maybe not.

Reading the manual on the ZL1 1LE mentions moving the rear stabilizer bar 1 link forward helps with oversteer. Anyone played with that?
