Haven't had a ticket in over 20 years. They don't typically ticket for anything under 10 over and even most times not unless you push 15 over... you can pass them doing 10 over and they don't even glance your way normally. I do run a Valentine One for when I am traveling out of the area or traveling with the other rush hour drivers in the left lane.

I've only had one, about 14 years ago and none since. Hopefully it'll stay that way!

Only got one, and that before I got the Camaro. Did a bit above the limit in a 50, the third row folks in the SUV were antsy, hardly any cars on the road at around 8:30-9pm. The cop pulled a classic one, tailgated me for a mile with all his lights off, then went Christmas tree once he'd obtained the evidence.

I think the more serious problem here in the US is driver education, or lack thereof. I'm originally from Hungary, and strictly for the purpose of illustration without being judgmental, here's how this works there, or at least worked back in my day.

80-90% of cars are still stick shift, so people are forced to learn proper clutch use. Two types of license, a "real" one for stick shift or auto and a "light" one for automatic cars only. Mandatory driver training courses in a driving school, with very specific requirements (first aid course, road rules course, 20 hours driving minimum, x hours night driving, y hours on wet/snowy roads etc.), plus it's done with modified cars that have an extra set of pedals on the passenger side and no obstruction between driver and trainer, you can't use your own car.

The road test is brutal, or at least was back in the day, typically 40-50 minutes of near flawless city driving is expected (no highway cruising), plus several specific maneuvers, such as parallel parking and hill start, randomly picked from a list. All this with the examiner sitting in the back seat and taking various derogatory marks for the smallest mistake qualifying as less hazardous (mirror usage frequency, lane change indication clarity, yielding and a million other aspects are evaluated continuously---the exam sheet is a letter sized page full of text printed in a tiny font). 10 of these minors in a session is automatic fail, and so is any single "major" one.

I was candidate #3 on exam day, guy #1 rear ended a bus real slow (ouch), guy #2 flipped his turn signal on only half a second before starting a U-turn (automatic fail), and I was the first one to pass that day, with only 3 marks against me. I had taken 40 hours of instruction instead of the 20 minimum, because I felt I hadn't been good enough.

All this is to say that I think proper driver ed helps more with road safety than enforcing sometimes dangerously low speed limits. My example may sound extreme, but in hindsight I'm super thankful for the instruction I got from my trainer (an ex-race car driver and karate trainer with very high expectations), and it's useful to have a decent, tough but no bs test regimen, if it's fair of course.

Cop gave me a ticket for 83 in a 55mph zone but then said, I'm going to give you a break and write this for 73mph, Took it to court and played my recording from my Garmin Dashcam and let the Judge listen to the Officer say "Give you a Break" he just provided false information on the ticket and the judge dismissed it on those grounds plus he gave the Officer an ass chewing!

You're ruthless. Cop tried to help you out after driving recklessly and you screw him over.

I find a good season of AutoX or HPDE gets the need for speed on city roads out of my system. Less pent up aggression. Could be just me.

In Maryland you'd get in trouble for recording audio without notifying the other party.

I drive a slow GT built for highway cruising, I really enjoy chicanes & S-curves, should have bought a Camaro, I had a "warning" for 6 mph over from a rookie State Trooper.
He was only 19-20 years old, and after he gave me the warning said, really nice mustang. I took high school driving courses and my Mom taught me defensive driving skills that serve me well today! Regards, Wily Coyote

Not only that, now that cop will probably never give anyone a break.

Own up to your mistakes instead of screwing over everyone to get your way.

You did the crime. You chose to go almost 30 over the limit. You got caught. Cop tried to cut you some slack, but you continued your poor behavior.

You know... Sometimes I think people post this kind of crap just to rile us up because I would like to think the story above is fake because no one would want to post it publicly knowing the reaction they would get. Or maybe this person still has a middle school/high school mindset where he expected to get high fives for winning over the "man". Heck the poster could still be in high school.....

First I do not know many Officers who drive the speed limit, That being said I did a playback of my Garmen showing the time, date, GPS, and speed together with the video, I did request the officers recording of the stop that he failed to produce, Yes every stop is recorded as is all conversations with the drivers, The playback showed that I wasn't speeding and there was no justification for the stop, So much for the Break all of this took place on Hwy 301 in Upper Marlboro while I was off Duty! Have a Good Day!

Now that makes more sense. You never said anything about him making up the speed you were allegedly doing.

It sounded like you were doing 83 and used him giving you a break as a way to get out of it.
