Yet another brake pad thread -- Brembo aftermarket pads

Background: 2016 2SS Convertible. Last inspection I was told I had 2mm pad left in the front and 5 mm in the rear.

I have never done a brake job in my life, except helping my dad when he did them (my first car 1975 Monza Town Coupe was one time). I want to try it thanks to YouTube rather than pay the dealer $$$ per axle.

For simplicity sake I think I want to stay with Brembo pads and just have the stock rotors turned vs. shelling out $450 to $550 for PowerStop Z26 pads and rotors.

So now my question. Brembo says the replacement pad for the front is P10064 low metallic or P10064N ceramic. The rear pads are P10071N ceramic. Which pad is better for the front, low metallic which is more expensive or ceramic which is cheaper?

I know rear brakes wear less than the fronts, so the fact that the rears only come in ceramic and are cheaper in ceramic for the front makes me think that the low metallic is the better, longer wearing pad. The low metallic has a black backing, and the ceramics have a red backing.

I'd rather buy the aftermarket Brembo genuine pads vs. going to the stealership for GM part number Brembos which are going to cost double or triple what an aftermarket Brembo pad costs.

If you are not going to track the car at all I would go with a good ceramic pad and call it a day. Lower dust and longer lasting rotors. Check out Rockauto.com for some of their pad options they have. Just my opinion

I would just do ceramic unless you're racing the car.
Just take your time and stay organized doing the brakes for the first time. Plenty of info out there. Spend some time getting organized and gathering info. Good luck

I would get powerstop z26 pads off amazon.
Refacing the rotors or not is up to you. Getting them off the car can be a real pain sometimes.
Plenty of youtube tutorials on this.

If you are worried about your skills being rusty, you could always do one axle at a time with a test drive in between.

Really, if this is your first solo brake job, and the grooves in the rotors are 1-2 mm deep, I would just put on new ceramic pads. it is not perfect, and maybe you will get 30,000 miles out of the pads instead of 40,000. But you will get the satisfaction of doing it yourself without the hassle of pulling the rotors.

These days in their seeking of less weight, better mileage, etc.. car makers are giving us thinner brake discs that don't tolerate "turning" very well.
If you are not experiencing any brake pulsating or any indication of a warped disc, I have found simply rotating the disc in place while holding a piece of 200 grit sandpaper to remove the old brake pad material (really necessary if changing pad material), off the front and back of the disc. Spray it down with some brake cleaner to get any dust off and swap the pads.

Is the P10071N the part number for a rear 4 piston Camaro ss brake pad? Looking to replace my ss 1le brakes and saw the brembo ceramics for the front but didn't see that brembo had anything for the rear on the ss's, just the zl1's.

The part number you're looking for is 84732503 or ACDelco 171-1127 (exact same part).

You may want to consider PowerStop Z26 brake pads as ctrlz mentioned above, they're much cheaper and will produce a lot less brake dust. Their part numbers for the SS 1LE are Z26-1405 (front) and Z26-1718 (rear).

I am going to say that my front ceramic brembo, were perfect and they fit perfect.


I COULD NOT find a single Brembo ceramic rear brake pad. AT ALL. Even Brembo when you place your Camaro SS in the car filter shows a SINGLE PISTON brake pad.... there are no single piston Camaro SS!


I ended up finding a pair of ceramic pads from Napa yesterday.

the only issue, is that the inner with the indicator on it does not fit on the inner. I had to put the outer on the inner and inner on the outer. I find it odd because the indicator is not on the inside for the stock brake pads. Thankfully it did not have a directional arrow, the stock pads do.


I cannot for the life of me, understand why there are SO FEW ceramic options for the rear.


EDIT: TO be perfectly clear, Brembo P10071N is a single piston pad!!!!

If you are putting on NAPA pads you might as well go z26 in the rear. amazon will have the best price.
Stock pads are semi-metallic, which is why they generate the orange-brown dust which sticks to the wheels.
Full ceramic avoids this.
