18" Rim and Tire Questions ZLE
Just recently picked up a set of 18" VS-5RS in the apex recommend sizing of 18X11-et7 and the 18X12-et41. I have never used this setup before but the guy I purchased them from said he ran it on a ZL1 non 1LE. The tires he has on the rims right now are as follows:
Fronts 18X11 et7 Yoko Advan A052's in a 315/30 Rears 18X12 et41 Vitour P01r in a 345/30 I am running extended studs and a track alignment and I also have 3mm spacers for the fronts so I shouldn't need to grind any struts. These rims are intended for scrub slicks and are only track duty. Just a side note I also run SM10s on a 19X11 et35 square with a 26mm spacer with zero issues. I figured I might as well use the tread up on these tires that are already mounted and balanced, but the sizing seems a little off and I was curious if I will run into any issues before sending them. I am also happy to dismount and run the classic 305/660 and 325/680. Side question where are people buying their takeoffs and are they happy? |

I would not want to run that combo of tires. AO52's on the front and Vitour P1's on the rear. I'm currently running the P1's in a 305 square configuration and they take a good amount of heat for them to wake up. The AO52's are just the opposite, they need much less heat to wake up. So, that means your fronts will start to grip early (usually by the time you finish your out lap) while the Vitours out back will take 2-3 laps to grip up. So for that time, the car is going to be really loose in the rear. Then, once the Vitours come alive after a couple of laps, the AO52's will begin to overheat and fall off and handling dynamics will change to being pushy.

Good looking out for me TransamGTA350.
I also have a set of P1's in a 315/30/18 that are brand new with the package deal so I can get the fronts dismounted and then run the Vitour P1s on all four corners 315/30/18 front and the 345/30 in the rear. What about the 345/30/18 in the rear? You think that it too much? On the tire configuration it does seem a decent amount wider compared to the 325/30/19 stock. |

For the reason mentioned, I would also encourage you to use those 315 Vitours up front. IME they are good track tires but not great for autocross use because of the heat thing. If you've seen of Dallas Reed's posts, their 345mm tires are fine on an 11" wheel, and I think I recall him saying he even used them on a 10" fitment and they worked. Given that, I think they'll work well on a 12" wheel.

If you already have a set of 315/30R18 Vitours for the front, go ahead and run them along with the 345 Vitours in the rear. You’ll probably find though with a 30mm stagger front-rear that the handling dynamic will favor understeer. If you’re newer to road course driving, that’s fine as it’s a safer setup. If you’re more experienced, you may prefer a more neutral balance, in which case running a square setup may be more beneficial.
You can play with tire pressures front to rear (run 2-3psi higher rear than front), which will loosen up the rear a little bit, but that’s more of a fine tuning tool. Also, just be careful on the Vitours now that the weather is getting cooler. The 1st few laps in the morning are pretty sketchy until they warm up. Max grip on the Vitour P1’s are pretty good once they are hot, but they definitely need a good amount of heat to come alive. The new Vitour P1X that’s coming out should activate at a lower temperature, similar to an RE71RS or AO52.

Thanks again for the replies it is very helpful to hear other opinions. I have a decent amount of track time and have driven at 8 different east coast tracks and have over 50 track days.
When I purchased the setup I was only taking into account the rims and ignored the tires. Since the tires are in good shape I figured why not consume them if they are already on there and ready to go. The Vitours may not get used this year as, like you said, the weather is turning. I have a set of supercar 3r's that are almost toast that will hopefully get me another day or two at road atlanta or VIR (weather permitting) and I was going to use these p1's as a backup if the 3r's cord before I am done for the year. |

I run Pirelli DH scrubs
310/660/18 DH-G Fronts (305/660/18 DH-F alternative) 325/660/18 DH Rears For me they stick better than anything else out there. 2 days on the set before needing to flip tires on rims. I usually just chuck ‘em after the 2nd day. |

I've been happy with gtracingtires. The first set i got from usedracingtires had a nail in one of the tires so I didn't keep ordering. Could have been a fluke.
