jlaudio11's turbo drag car update
I've been very busy with life and not able to do alot on the car. End of last year I leaned on the second stock transmission pretty hard, won the last class I was in but burned up clutches pretty good. The car would no longer hold power just driving around.
I bought a suncoast category 2 rebuild and decided to rebuild the original trans I burned up and has been sitting in my garage. Ive never built a transmission before but I feel I can do about anything lol. I bought the atsg 10 speed rebuild guide and it was pretty good. All in all I don't think it was that horrible to do, just time consuming and an attention to detail is necessary. I also tried installing a ratiotek kit in the original valve body. That would later be an issue. If i was pulling the trans I figured I would go through the engine I put together now 2 years prior. I set the rings very loose afraid of them sticking and in hindsight they were too loose with more blowby than I would like. So I reringed and bearing'ed the engine. Bearings came out looking great so that was a nice affirmation of engine assembly prior, oil and my tuning on the engine. I got everything back together and had transmission issues in the lower gears. It was like I was losing pressure to apply clutches. I thought I had potentially damaged seal installing etc. I swapped the modified original valve body, with the oem unmodified valve body from the 2nd stock trans and everything went back to normal in terms of driving, operation etc I also changed my port injection strategy to more like dsx is doing it and am testing that. So far testing is good. I've just been driving around and enjoying the car the last few weeks but finally got to the track this past Wednesday. I really just wanted to test and knock the rust off, not set the world on fire. First pass I launched before the car had completely got up to launch boost and it was ugly. Ok I atleast knocked some of the rust off. I made some changes to get it up on boost easier and went back up. Second pass the car got up on boost and launched great, setting a new 60' pb of 1.37 launching in 2nd gear, the rest of the pass the trans wasn't happy. Looking at the log it looks like it initiated the 2-3 shift really early and then pulled back from that, eventually completed the shift near target. Once in 3rd the lock up started to apply like normal and then released for some reason, made the 3-4 and reapplied. So it was anything but clean but still managed a 6.05@118 (track was 1/8 only). I decided to dig into the data before sending it back down the track after this. All in all everything didn't go perfect but I'm fairly happy after all the changes. I plan to recheck fluid level, possibly a trans relearn by gm and maybe trying to go wot shift on lower power to see how it reacts.

Thanks for the update and glad you got some time to get the car back out there. You’ll get it figured out.

Street testing last night, wot converter locked and shifted as expected on low boost. So hopefully continued testing will be positive.

NICE!!! It's good to hear you're making positive progress for the tranny stuff. The closest thing I've done to transmission work are clutches and converters. I have the valve body upgrade to do, and that's a little daunting... I can't imagine rebuilding one of these, like you have. MUCH RESPECT!!!
Are those transitional areas looking good?
