Amtrak Auto Train
My wife and I took the Amtrak Auto train, from Lorton Virginia to Sanford Florida, and back last week with my 2023 SS Convertible. They treated my car with respect and I found no damage from the train ride. Normally they put a magnetic sign with your car number on the driver side door, but the guy said my car was too nice and didn't want to scratch it, so he let me put it on the dash. We had a roomette on the way down, but upgraded to a full room on the way back. It's not cheap, but it saved 2,000 miles on my car, a full day of driving and staying in a hotel. The roomette and room options are first class, so dinner and breakfast are included along with an attendant for your train car. Going coach is a lot cheaper, but that's like sitting in an airplane for 15 hours. Just wanted to pass this along if anyone had thought of taking a trip up/down the East coast.

Seems fun but i probably would have put the 2000 miles on my car. Smiles per gallon go further than resale value does

I like the idea of that: the ability to go a great distance in comfort and then have my own vehicle when I get there. Though I love driving my car, 5 or 6 hours is all I want to ride in a car at a time.

We talked about doing that to California from Texas with motorcycles years ago. Was a good idea but we never did it.

My problem is not putting enough miles on my Camaro, because life happens and many dream roadtrips don't happen.
If you have the opportunity for a roadtrip, take it! |

A friend of mine used one from Florida to DC, he loved the experience.

A couple of years ago, we considered driving from CT to VA to load onto the train and spend a week (ish) in the greater Orlando area with the convertible. I'm glad to hear that your vehicle was well cared for because the videos I had watched of the loading process and such made me very hesitant and we ended up just flying and renting a car... WAY cheaper in the end than what it would have cost us to drive and take. the train, but I didn't have -my- Convertible Camaro for tooling around in.
