Grok with mod questions, it’s incredible
If the info grok is giving is correct, it really breaks down what adding mods do and what restrictions you might have.
For a bolt on car, it really shows even with all mods, a 2” header doesn’t add anything since the 1 7/8ths flows (CFM) above other restrictions. So on a bolt-on car, Rotofab flows 1000 cfm, 95mm tb is 700-750 cfm, 103 is 800-850 cfm, lt2 intake 700 cfm, ported lt2 800 cfm, MSD 850 CFM and ported Msd 900 cfm On the exhaust side 1 7/8ths flow 1000cfm, off-road pipes 1000 cfm, high flow cats similar, stock manifolds 500 (it mentioned a choke down at the neck, stock cats 500-600 cfm, stock NPP 600-800cfm, mentioned to use 700cfm because of internal flow design. It did have a hard time figuring out the LT2 intake with the 87mm opening and after asking a couple of times it mentioned that the opening can be ported to 90-95mm. Grok is convinced with full both ons, 103 mm throttle body is beneficial and the stock cat-back becomes a restriction once you get full bolt ons. ChatGTP was terrible compared to grok.

Also want to point out, even though high flow cats flow similar to off-road pipes, grok says they make less hp due to adding 1-2 psi of back pressure, have less exhaust scavenging and tuners can tune slightly leaner for off-road setups.

I am not convinced intake/exhaust mods are worth it unless you're FI or camed.
A friend has all the bolt ons except E85 and weighs about 100 lbs less, he gains a few car lengths on the straights at HPR, a 2 min track. A few car lengths isn't nothing, but for me, it's just not worth it. I'd do heads/cam given an unlimited budget but I don't have that and chasing power is the biggest money pit you can find.

Grok is crazy good indeed. I probably won't have a job much longer.

![]() Jokes aside, thank you for the compliment, much of my English is from Eastern European classrooms, from back when Russian had been our only "choice" as a second language, but opportunites just began to open up and I was lucky enough to be allowed to learn English. I'm tremendously blessed to be able to live as a US citizen and I feel grateful for it practically every day. I'm a staff software engineer, and the writing seems to be on the wall for all of us. Our experience as senior devs primarily comes down to the ability to recognize the quality and impact of trends, patterns, practices, then make technical decisions that benefit the business in the medium and even longer term and guide more junior folks in the correct direction. This is all within reach for a Grok-like AI in the next few years. The key reason IMO is that the very things that help software engineers improve their abilities and climb the ladder of impact are actually the forte of these AIs, so we don't stand a chance long term. Anything our intellect can come up with, AI will immediately learn, copy and hone to perfection. Although an AI does not "know" anything and it has no concept of truth, its pattern matching and emulation prowess make its output look realistic. Now of course the AI road isn't all rosy, AIs will soon run out of genuine training material and have already begun regurgitating their own stuff, plus they can easily develop a warped view of reality because 1) again, they currently have no concept of what truth is, they deal only in probabilities, and 2) everyone will act different when they're aware of AIs (kind of like how in the quantum world, any observation changes the phenomenon being observed). We'll see, and of course there's always the opportunity to jump on the bandwagon and make AIs better/different, but what I'm trying to do the most is be helpful to the next generation, they have a difficult way ahead of them in this modern world. BTW we have a fantastic mix of boomer (65+), Gen X, millennial and Gen Z (22-23 yo) developers at the company I work for, these youths are an absolute pleasure to work with, and I want to make a positive impact on them. The importance of the human aspect has been on the rise, and AIs will probably accelerate that.

arpad-m I'm confident that I speak for everyone here
on C6 when I say we're all very happy to have you "on the team", providing the most consistently accurate and often, very difficult to find information. Thanks for being here! ![]() And please keep us posted on this AI stuff, believe it or not(!), I don't know shite about that.. stuff. Last edited by Ventmaster; 04-02-2025 at 01:21 PM. |

Thank you so much, brother. I enjoy being here, too, and over time I've learned a tremendous amount from others here who actually understand how cars work

Hate to hear that about your impending future arpad_m
Being a Senior Consultant with a software education/background (20+ years) that serves as a QA lead engineer role on various projects, all I can say as I look forward to a bright and lucrative future is... "AI can't take your job, if your job is to use AI"

I'm on my 4th or 5th iteration depending on how one would count careers. From factory worker to logistics to sales to finally technology the last 25 years (first network, then hardware and finally software). It's all been a blessing as well. As another poster mentioned earlier, glad to have you around, and hang in there.
