Brake Rotor + Pads upgrade
I have a 2017 SS which I have been using to autox and in the near future, go on the road course. The rotors seem to be a bit worn already and I’m looking to upgrade.
Can someone that has this kit please give me some feedback? https://www.americanmuscle.com/power...-k7226-26.html I want to know if they’re better than the stock SS brakes. Idc about brake dust, just how they feel and perform. |

I would not use that Powerstop setup for track days. You are going to get lots of different opinions on brake pad selection, but this bit of info is not opinion....Do not use drilled rotors. They are not for the road course. Cracks will more easily propagate from the holes. Stick with solid blank rotors. Slotted are ok, but they are generally not needed.
The OE Ferodo pads (HP1000) are a very good dual purpose pad. I like the DS2500 and DS1.11 Ferodos also. There's a saying I heard years ago when it comes to brake dust, a dustless pad is a stopless pad. Not really "stopless" but if someone wants excellent pad performance, they have to accept the dust. Unfortunately, pad selection is not the only variable that plays a part in reliable, capable track day brakes. Mass, in the form of larger rotors and calipers, actually is a good thing, to a point. Mass ads thermal capacity. An excellent, easy choice in having a reliable capable track day setup is to swap in an SS 1LE brake package. And another consideration, a very important one, is cooling. Your SS may have come with a set of large, flat front cooling deflectors. They would have been in the trunk at delivery. They are very good at moving air. If not, then the Cadillac CT5 BlackWing deflectors are another set of deflectors that move lots of air. Cooling and high quality DOT4 fluid (Castrol SRF, Brembo HTC64T, or Endless 650) should be priority before any other choices are made on pads. Heat is the enemy and it has to be managed no matter the pad choice.

I agree that if youre going to be on a track of any kind you probably won't want that Powerstop kit, at least not the Z26 pad. It's a fantastic street pad, almost no dust, but I really wouldn't want it on a track. Most certainly an upgrade over your OE stuff but not track worthy, IMHO>

Thanks guys. I don’t care about brake dust at all. I love my current OE set up but was just curious if anyone had used this kit for something else other than street driving. All of the reviews show great things but again, only street driving.
Another question, I’m not sure if you guys have bought directly from the dealer, but they have different categories or “ratings” on the site for their parts (OE,gold, silver) .. have any of you bought the gold tier part? |

Always go with what is the OE#, which will be GM Genuine. And if it is an AC Delco part, it will also have the OE part # listed, sometimes in addition to the AC part #. GM Genuine or the same AC Delco # part is always going to be the best among all those choices from GM/dealers. The gold, silver, etc tiers play to the aftermarket nonsense of parts grading.
More often than not, places like rockauto.com will beat the dealer's price. I always look at Rockauto first. And always search google for coupon codes. Roackauto always has a 5% off one out there. Create an account and they will eventually send one to your email.

Wow I never knew about that rockauto site! Thanks!
Does anyone rock the ACDelco S Groove rotors? I see they’re also on the chevy parts site. |

Just stay with the blanks. Those AC Delco slotted are just for looks. DBAs and other performance rotors some use for track use (can't recall what the name is) are engineered to be abused. Slot design matters.

ZL1/ZLE parts will swap onto an SS 1LE, so if the SS to SS 1LE is a direct swap, so is the ZL1/ZLE. Thread chart was taken from: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=614204

https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=553921 We are dealing with brakes here, make sure the appropriate part #s are used, for example, brake hoses must be paired with the caliper used. And it is worth noting, moving up in brake mass is a good thing for track brakes, to a point. We would be adding the worst kind of weight to a vehicle. Rotating and unsprung weight. someone with a good sense of vehicle dynamics may feel the effects of that weight. The trade off is usually worth it to have reliable consistent, etc, brakes.
