A10 2.77 rear end to 3.27? Worth it?
Hey guys, this topic started on another post and better move it to the right place.
So far we have, 2.77 2.85 3.27 3.73 With combinations of LSD, Open and e-LSD. For M6 cars, unless someone makes a 4.11 or something shorter, that's it for now. But the Automatic 10 speed comes with 2.77 which seems extremely long but with the A10 short ratios moves really quick. I'm the owner of an LT1, so I don't have rear diff cooling. If I'm not wrong, I can swap the 2.77 LSD with a 3.27 LSD from a V6 without major issues. This is a spreadsheet of how it would look like: ![]() I think starting with 2.77, going for 2.85 doesn't make much sense, it's just a 2.8% difference. Different wheels/tire size will make it. On the other hand 3.73 is too short, would render 1st and 2nd useless, turns the A10 into an A8 (Look how 1st and 2nd are shorter than 1st in the M6) ![]() So, what do you think the 3.27 would do in the A10 LT1? IMO, 1st is always wasted, 2nd can pull way harder with proper grip, and 3rd with 7.0 final ratio would be also a killer gear. 4th runs like the old 3rd. 5th runs like old 4th. In the 1/4 mile should be crossing the line in 6th? |

Not worth it IMO. First gear is useless once you start making power and that gear change looks like second gear would become a traction issue too. I suppose if you’re staying NA with mild power then maybe…?

It's been done and has been proven to not make much difference other than increased traction issues. A 2.77 rear gear isn't that long when you factor the short ratios in the A10 ahead of it. It's all about final drive ratio.

It's a daily driver so I don't want many mods. Since it is A10 i also don't want to mess with cams and stock converter so shorter gears and stock engine sounds doable and I can undo it anytime.

I think the only improvement could be 2nd and 3rd. Then you're just swapping gears since there are so close. It was done here in the forum? I couldn't find any info. |

With the gears being so close, do you think a high stall would benefit like in the old 4 speeds? Also I don't want this lol https://www.youtube.com/shorts/bn4M95JOcRU ![]() If the car was M6 the perfect setup would be 4.11 and a nice cam. |

Lol, that's why I'm asking I had a Yank SS3600 and a CircleD4000 in my built 4L60 with the 3.73. Maybe you're correct and that's why I cant find anyone who's running a higher stall in the A10. The video looks to be someone with a cam too big for the converter. That's why you need a higher stall
