1SS/Z 1LE Order Adventure
So my local dealer will do MSRP plus some $1000 paint/interior protection gimmick. They said I have five cars in line ahead of me. My suspicion is since they’re receiving allocations as the existing orders come in, I need a new dance partner…? The gimmick ‘service’ they force everyone to buy rubs me wrong, as well. They are the largest dealer in my region…Another Big Detroit dealer wants $2k ADM on sold order, lol.
I was referred to another distant dealer that will do straight up MSRP. They have one car in line ahead of me, and they seem very good- they definitely want to sell me a Camaro. I think I’m going to lock in and fetch it if/ when it comes in. By the way, someone south of Lansing waiting on a black ZLE might be very happy soon. Saw one on a car hauler headed south on I69 (near Muncie, IN) My goodness, what a beast. So much so I’m considering bumping trim from SS to Z. I would definitely upgrade to Z if I could get one in bright yellow. Wait for collectors Edition? The obvious risk is if orders start piling up at the distant dealer, I miss the boat entirely. I’m thinking just lock in on a black 1SS and tackle the yellow Z if they decide to produce one. I could always sell the black car. Also the distant dealer is only asking for $500 deposit. That car would certainly sell quickly. Probably equal chance they’d sell it and apply $500 to my new order. If not, $500 isn’t an unreasonable premium to pay to unsure I end up with a V8 Camaro supercharged or not… This is excruciating! The pending ICE Camaro extinction event definitely adds to the stress. I’m generally very patient and score at least a 10% discount from MSRP. How times have changed! Last edited by cooldawg; 08-24-2022 at 09:20 AM. |

I hate dealer addons. I think I know which Detroit dealer youre talking about with $2K ADM right now. I had a 22 on order with them for over 200 something days and we had to roll it over to a 23 which has been built. At the time I ordered that 22 model they had 14 others ahead of me. It's pretty typical that you're going over sticker in some form or fashion these days.

I wouldn't personally pay a dime over MSRP out of principal, but it does take effort. I called up about 20-25 dealerships in the SoCal/OC/San Diego area. Few would take an order, and even less would take an order with no markup. 1 would wouldn't take an order since I wasn't from San Diego, and the other would do MSRP. When I went to place the order, they said they can do -200 below MSRP for an order. This was in May though.

When I was checking inventory I found this:
https://www.jamesmartindetroit.com/s....aspx?q=camaro All Camaro's on that page have $2K market adjustment. I had it on good info that ZL1's could be $4K. |

What i've seen, the dealer will use allocations to order cars if they don't have orders and those cars will be sold before they arrive (meaning if you wait for one to show up on the lot, it won't).

Get the ZL1 if the thought has already entered your mind. The SS is an amazing car, but the ZL1 is on another level. A supercharged V8 will be the talk of the town in the future.

For sure. Only drawbacks are price of course and more risk of felony traffic violation. Had a couple near misses when I briefly owned a Hellcat. On the other hand I can afford the premium, I only have budget/ space for one fun car, and Camaro is going extinct. If I could get one in yellow, I’d already own a Z. Yellow/ carbon fiber combo is absolutely irresistible!

You might check my post about my recent order issues and success with getting an allocation in 30 days for a ZL1. The dealer is in St. Louis but there are dealers out there honoring GM discount programs and no ADM. I am GM Employee pricing eligible.

I ordered mine from Shaheen Chevrolet here in Lansing. No ADM or add-ons and they accepted my GM Supplier discount. Please my car never saw a truck. They were able to pick it up from the plant. It had 6 miles on it when I accepted it from the dealer.

Thanks I’ll try them. They are close and pick up from factory would be great. Too bad they couldn’t credit you destination.

If you are pre-ordering a car, you should not pay a penny over MSRP.
I was shopping around late last year in Long Island, and a local dealer told me it would be $5000 above MSRP on factory order. I laughed all the way out the door. I ended up going with another dealer on my 2022 1LE that charged me MSRP less GM Supplier discount. Took 6 months to get my 1LE. My nephew ordered his 2022 LT1 6-speed with Recaros, NPP and sunroof the same time as me, and he waited only 4 months. |

Is it just Lansing dealers that have this option of local pick-up?
