Reflecting Back on the Past Year

Hey guys, finally joined after lurking around here for the last year!

Last April, I decided it was time to upgrade from my 2014 Mustang 5.0, which was a great car no doubt. I started by calling local dealers around my area in Northern Jersey and inquiring about what it would take to order a brand new Camaro. The used car prices were close to what I'd be paying, so I knew I had to go the new route. Fast forward a bit, and I couldn't believe that I was able to get an allocation for my exact build, and for a 2023 at that. This was the first time I ever ordered a car, and so it was really enjoyable (and sometimes frustrating) to go to the build and price tool and keep playing around with options. Ultimately, I decided on a 1SS after considering an LT1 for awhile. While I didn't need the bells and whistles of a 2SS, I wanted the benefits of going to a 1SS, like tires that are summer only and wider in the rear, Brembo rear brakes, the gauge cluster, larger infotainment screen, and most importantly the front fascia which I prefer. In the end, I went with a pretty low option build, a Black 1SS coupe with a 6 speed. I added on NPP which I couldn't have bought the car without, and a few other cosmetic add-ons like the silver spoked wheels, red calipers, front splitter, and chrome Camaro badges, which remind me of the first year '67 before they went to the script font, and also the 5th gens.

Anyway, the whole process was made a lot easier by being able to follow along in the pricing/ordering sub-forum. I was able to watch the car progress through the event codes with many other members, and eagerly await the delivery (exactly 5 months which I was very happy with). Now, after 6 months since I got the car, and 1500 miles later, I'm nothing short of impressed. The car handles so much better than the Mustang did, and has a lot more torque down low. Love the transmission as well. I'm not a modification kind of guy...so nothing planned there. I am big on detailing however, so I look forward to trying out some new products along the way. Thanks for providing so much information and making the process a lot easier, glad to be a part of it myself now.

This was last fall a couple months after I got her:

AWESOME!!! My 2020 2SS was the first car I ever ordered as well, I absolutely LOVE my Camaro... A little over 3 years old and I'm just over 8,000 miles, it is my weekend/fun car so it can go a couple weeks without getting driven, but I enjoy every drive, it is a great car!

Nice, Shadow Grey was a color I considered because of the awesome color shift it does depending on the light! This car has definitely grown on me every time I get in it.

JT6Speed, congratulations on your wise purchase and tasteful options, and indeed thanks for the story, too

Out of curiosity, which dealership did you order your 1SS from? I used to live in northern NJ, bought mine there in 2018 and was given an outstanding overall service experience, so I wonder if it's the same dealership or not.

Thank you, yeah you cannot help but smile when you drive this car lol. Feels a lot more "old school" with the punchiness combined with the 6 speed. The Mustang was more gradual and started screaming up top.

Thanks! Yeah I ordered from Schumacher Chevy. They have 5 locations, I went to Little Falls. The staff was great helping me get everything squared away.

Exactly, you feel the difference the moment you touch the go pedal. Mine is an automatic, but it's surprising to me to this day how punchy the car is even in 8th gear, it doesn't even downshift to 7th for passing on the highway most of the time. I wavered long between the M6 and the A8 before I ordered, ultimately went with the A8, following the "80:20 rule", but I sure appreciate how brutal a downshift to 2nd and hitting the throttle can be in the M6 (btw I learned to drive on a stick shift Ford Focus and always drove manual with one exception prior to the Camaro).

Ha, I bought mine at Schumacher Chevy Denville. Their customer service shown to me was absolutely outstanding, their Corvette tech was the only one to ever work on my car (including oil changes, I kid you not), and we became friends with him and the service manager over time. Hardworking, good hearted, old school folks. Glad to hear their Little Falls location is similar in terms of quality.

Welcome. That's a sweet looking ride you have there. Hand washing and blow drying only with a light spray of polish with minimum use of the best microfiber towels each time LOL.

I'm honestly impressed with how much pep this thing has, even in 5th on the highway. During break-in most of my shifts are 3 grand or below and it still has plenty of pull. If it weren't for the TR-6060 being so good, I would have went with the 10 speed because it really has come a long way since the old TH-400's and 4L60E's.

But yeah, I think that's why their slogan is "Come join the family." I was very satisfied with Schumacher and they were very transparent about the ordering process, not paying over sticker, and only paying a doc fee (which was less than other dealers I've been to).

Thanks, lol yeah don't worry. This winter I've amassed a large amount of color coordinated microfiber towels, soaps, cleaners and much more!
