ESC enables itself on it's own?...

Has anyone experienced ESC enabling on it's own?

I was out tuning, in Competitive Mode (SPORT), and after a couple WOT blasts from a dig and slow rolls, I noticed that ESC turned itself back on. I got no warning lights or anything like that. I THOUGHT that I caught a glimpse of a message in the gauge cluster, but I was too late, and if there was, I couldn't read what it may have said. It was like I just missed the window of the message closing (like the same window when you receive the Competitive Mode being active).

Anyways - I noticed this right after one of the runs. I was able to turn it right back on with no problems. I totally forgot to check DTCs when I got back home just because I forgot, so I don't have any of that information. This is at least the second time I've noticed this happening. From what I can recall, I do remember the car getting pretty loose out back, and feel like that is about what happened the last time this occurred. I'm not certain there is a relationship or coincidence though.

Has anyone noticed this kind of thing before? I don't recall reading anything in either the Owner's or Performance manuals about ESC turning itself back on in an circumstances. I do recall that Cruise Control cannot be enabled in Sport (or Track modes), but I wasn't messing with any of that. It just seemed to enable itself of it's own... Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chuck

99.9% chance of an inadvertent press of the mode button.

Thanks for that but it's happening in my ZLE on track and street...100% chance of NOT an inadvertent press of a mode button. Bizzare because it happens randomly and I have not found a pattern yet.

Remove your rear tire and inspect the ABS harness that runs along the fender liner. I had that issue once and it turned out to be that the tire rubbed through the harness and through the wiring insulation.

Thanks-I found the harness, but that’s not the problem. I’ll take it to my mechanic on Monday. I don’t have a code reader that reads suspension codes but I’m guessing there’s one in there and we’ll get to the bottom of it. It doesn’t in all modes and is very intermittent.

Yes- he found 15 volts going to the body control module during situations where the traction control or ECS would normally be needed if it was energized - and it should be no more than 14. So far he cleaned several grounds and it appears to have fixed the problem.

Another test drive today and we'll see!

I could understand dirty grounds causing the voltage to be lower, not the other way around tho.
