you won't get anything out of them. Best option is to remove them yourself next time.

As you know, you have people doing the work as quick as possible to keep the customer and the boss happy.

Any damage complaint would need to have been handled there at the time of pickup. It doesn't hurt to talk with a manager, I guess, but unfortunately this is common with quick tire changes.

Not saying I accept it, and approve of it... but you see my point.

I remove mine prior to appointments for this very reason, I even scrape inspection stickers. Goo-Gone and touch up paint.

100% agree with you. It's sad that I feel I have to remove the wheels myself and clean the residue that's left behind. As well as deal with what's been marred down beyond the paint. In the future I think I'll take the wheels off the car and remove the weights myself prior to taking it in. I've had good luck in the past at Discount tire but maybe I should explore something outside of them. As a female it is a little bit of a pain in the ass to jack my car up and put four wheels in the back of my daily. Granted it has 120 ft³ of cargo room but I shouldn't have to. The other problem is this particular one is located in Toledo Ohio and I now live 180 miles south east of there. I still head that way on occasion but the distance makes it difficult.

That weight tape is a bear to take off, no shop is going to get it as clean as you would like.

Doesn’t look like there is any damage to the paint? If not then they just didn’t clean up the old adhesive from the old weights. Personally, in your position, I would just clean the old glue/residue off and be done with it. I don’t think it’s worth complaining about if they didn’t damage the rim or paint.

I use two tire shops here in town I’ve never had this problem, I don’t have to clean anything off or unstick anything, they take them off with 3M adhesive remover clean it up and remount. This is just shotty work, yes I would talk to them, they may not come back with much but it’s worth bringing to their attention ,somebody just got heavy handed with a screwdriver and didn’t wanna wait for any adhesive remover to work. I’ll make it a guess that the shop pays on a flat rate for changing a tire, and the guy was trying to beat the time, instead of being patient.

The cure for bad service is to find somebody in town that sells high-end wheels, that go on all the exotics, HRE’s, forge line , godsend, etc.… They know how to mount tires on rims. And they usually do it for a reasonable price.

Discount tire places are horrendous! A few years back, I took a small sedan to a Mr. Tire that's just 10 minutes from my house. They put 4 new tires on the car. There were circular scratches around all 4 wheels. I didn't notice until a couple days later when I was cleaning-up the car. I took it back and asked for the manager. All he could say was, "How do I know that you didn't do this?". You could plainly see that the scratches were perfect circles from being on the mounting machine. I just shook my head at him and told him that I'd never be back and that I'll tell others to never go there.

Unfortunately I think you are SOL. You probably would have had to file a complaint right away and not 4 months later. It sucks but I think even if they were a decent and respectable shop they would give you 30 days max.

Waiting 4 months to complain is a really long time

I agree with you. I am always telling them to be very careful with the rims. It is really a pain in the neck with all those car shops.
I would talk to the manager and tell him but I don’t think you will get anything from them.

Unfortunately yes there is damage. I can make it look significantly better by taking off the adhesive and what's left of the weights but there still Is some gouging and paint missing.

I feel like on three rims they used a plastic putty knife to get the pre-existing weights off but on one of them they gouged it pretty well, almost like they used a metal putty knife.

Completely agree with you. Had I seen it before I put her to bed This winter I would have said something then. I came home and did a quick detail before covering her up. I was so focused on getting her in bed before bad weather hit. I'm really surprised that when I was putting carpet squares underneath the tires that I didn't notice it. Apparently they were angled just right.

I always make note to take pictures of my wheels before they go to a shop like this, and then also do a thorough inspection with the manager afterwards. Also helps to request a more senior technician as you would be more likely to not end up with a 18-20 year old who might not care as much.
